High Yielding Microbubble Production Method [PDF]

open access: yesBioMed Research International, 2016
Microfluidic approaches to microbubble production are generally disadvantaged by low yield and high susceptibility to (micro)channel blockages. This paper presents an alternative method of producing microbubbles of 2.6 μm mean diameter at concentrations in excess of 30 × 106 mL−1.

Tailoring Vascular‐Immune Homeostasis via Manganese‐DNA Complex‐Armed Immunogenic Extracellular Vesicles for Pancreatic Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that Mn2⁺–tumor DNA complexes encapsulated in dendritic cell (DC)– derived immunogenic extracellular vesicles (EVDC@Mn‐DNA) act as a DC‐specific cGAS– STING activator. EVDC@Mn‐DNA treatment enhances intratumoral DC activation, improves tumor vascular function, promotes CD8⁺ T cell activity, and suppresses pancreatic tumor growth,

Hollow Core, Whispering Gallery Resonator Sensors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A review of hollow core whispering gallery resonators (WGRs)is given. After a short introduction to the topic of whispering gallery resonators we provide a description of whispering gallery modes in hollow or liquid core WGRs.

Shrinking microbubbles with microfluidics: mathematical modelling to control microbubble sizes [PDF]

open access: yesSoft Matter, 2017
Microbubbles have applications in industry and life-sciences. In medicine, small encapsulated bubbles (< 10 μm) are desirable because of their utility in drug/oxygen delivery, sonoporation, and ultrasound diagnostics. While there are various techniques for generating microbubbles, microfluidic methods are distinguished due to their precise control ...

Robust spatially resolved pressure measurements using MRI with novel buoyant advection-free preparations of stable microbubbles in polysaccharide gels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
MRI of fluids containing lipid coated microbubbles has been shown to be an effective tool for measuring the local fluid pressure. However, the intrinsically buoyant nature of these microbubbles precludes lengthy measurements due to their vertical ...

Rigid Hollow Microparticles for Enhanced Focused Ultrasound Treatment Under Optoacoustic Guidance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By combining focused ultrasound (FUS) and acoustically active hollow borosilicate microparticles (HBMPs), we demonstrate tunable control over interparticle dynamics and their localized thermal energy deposition. Modulation of acoustic frequency and particle concentration tailors the energy delivery, allowing adaptive, material‐based regulation of ...

Stimuli‐Responsive Supramolecular Biomaterials for Cancer Theranostics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The ultimate goal of cancer theranostics is to get imaging agents and therapeutic cargo to tumor sites when and where they are required. “Smart” systems should be developed. This review discusses the characteristics of physiological stimuli, types and action modes of external stimuli, construction approaches and working principles, as well as ...

Ultrasonic‐Assisted Photocatalytic Conversion of Air to Nitric Acid Under Ambient Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ultrasound‐assisted photocatalytic air oxidation to nitrate enhances soil nitrogen fertilizer dynamics, thereby enabling improved energy conversion efficiency and sustainable agriculture. ABSTRACT The production of nitric acid (HNO3) holds significant importance in the chemical industry, and achieving direct air‐to‐HNO3 conversion with high efficiency ...

Sonothrombolysis with Magnetically Targeted Microbubbles [PDF]

open access: yesUltrasound in Medicine & Biology, 2019
Microbubble-enhanced sonothrombolysis is a promising approach to increasing the tolerability and efficacy of current pharmacological treatments for ischemic stroke. Maintaining therapeutic concentrations of microbubbles and drugs at the clot site, however, poses a challenge.
