Framboid microcrystals grow through surface reaction of S2(-II) or H2S with =FeS moieties at defect sites on the pyrite crystal surface. The surface energies of pyrite vary from the most stable cubic through octahedral to pyritohedral and dodecahedral surfaces.

The Microcrystal Melting Transition
Molecular Simulation, 1988Abstract Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations of the melting transition of Lennard-Jones microcrystals confined to spherical cavities are reported. While 13 atom microcrystals melt continuously, larger microcrystals containing 201 and 209 atoms exhibit a first-order-like freezing transition to an HCP structure.

The investigation of magnetite microcrystals
Hyperfine Interactions, 1992Four samples of Fe3O4 microcrystals with average particle size of 72, 88, 100, 100A have been investigated by Mossbauer spectroscopy, accompanied with x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The experimental results show that the anisotropy energy constantK increases as the particle size decreases.

Voltammetry of azobenzene microcrystals
Journal of Solid State Electrochemistry, 1997Azobenzene solid particles have been mechanically attached to a graphite electrode and measured by cyclic staircase voltammetry. Well-developed and widely separated chatodic and anodic peak were observed. Redox reaction is controlled by both the heterogeneous charge transfer kinetics and the mass transfer.

Structure of polypyromellitimide microcrystals
Polymer Science U.S.S.R., 1975Abstract Polypyromellitimide single crystals were grown and examined by electron microscope. A geometrical model was made and molecules packed in an elementary cell and fold. Electron diffraction patterns were obtained which contained seven rings of molecular scattering, as well as crystalline reflexes.

Wannier exciton in microcrystals
Solid State Communications, 1986Abstract A simple variational calculation is presented of the ground state properties of the electron-hole system confined in three-dimensional quantum wells with spherical shape. As the radius of the wall is reduced to a few times the effective Bohr radius of the bulk exciton, the character of the ground state changes abruptly but continuously from ...

Strain in microcrystals and in superlattices
Optical Engineering, 1990A new general theory of the dependence of strain on crystal size L for defect-free cubic materials bounded by {100} faces is presented. While current theories predict a ('y/L) dependence, this work suggests a (F/L)½ dependence by considering both surface tension (rny) and surface free energy (6FL2) effects.

Morphology of ZnO microcrystals
Journal of Crystal Growth, 1977Abstract The morphology of small ZnO crystals, formed by anodic electrocrystallization of a zinc substrate, has been examined via scanning electron microscopy. The general morphology is observed to consist of a network array of discrete single crystal plates.
