Esophageal Microenvironment: From Precursor Microenvironment to Premetastatic Niche.

open access: yesCancer management and research, 2020
Esophageal cancer (EC) is the sixth most deadly cancer, and its incidence is still increasing year by year. Although the researches on the molecular mechanisms of EC have been widely carried out and incremental progress has been made, its overall survival rate is still low. There is cumulative evidence showing that the esophageal microenvironment plays

Bone Marrow Adipocytes Contribute to Tumor Microenvironment-Driven Chemoresistance via Sequestration of Doxorubicin

open access: yes, 2023
Chemoresistance is a significant problem in the effective treatment of bone metastasis. Adipocytes are a major stromal cell type in the bone marrow and may play a crucial role in developing microenvironment-driven chemoresistance.

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

N-cadherin crosstalk with integrin weakens the molecular clutch in response to surface viscosity

open access: yesNature Communications
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) interact with their surroundings via integrins, which link to the actin cytoskeleton and translate physical cues into biochemical signals through mechanotransduction.

Jagged1-Notch1-deployed tumor perivascular niche promotes breast cancer stem cell phenotype through Zeb1

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
The transcription factor Zeb1 is known to promote tumorigenesis and stemness in breast cancer. Here the authors show that tumor endothelial Jagged1 induces activation of Notch1 signaling and increases Zeb1 expression in neighboring breast cancer stem ...

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

PINCH-1 regulates mitochondrial dynamics to promote proline synthesis and tumor growth

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Proline metabolism is crucial to tumor proliferation. Here, the authors show PINCH-1 deficiency inhibited proline synthesis by promoting mitochondrial fragmentation via DRP1, downregulating PYCR1 expression and reducing cell proliferation in vitro and in
