Microbiome‐mediated chemical communication in insects: Implications for pest management

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Microbiome–semiochemical interactions involve the following processes: direct microbial synthesis, host gene regulation, precursor biotransformation, microbiome modulation and indirect ecological signaling. Abstract Insects rely on semiochemicals to regulate aggregation, mating, foraging, and host selection. This review synthesizes evidence that insect‐

Microextraction of Polycyclic Musks from Surface Water with Deep-Eutectic-Solvent-Coated Membrane Followed by Gas-Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry Analysis

open access: yesChemosensors
Deep eutectic solvents (DESs), a novel class of eco-friendly solvents, are attracting considerable attention in extraction techniques. In this study, a hydrophobic DES, created by combining a quaternary ammonium salt and hexanoic acid, was coated onto a ...

Stable flies preferentially oviposit on sites offering conspecific eggs with egg‐derived bacterial semiochemicals

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Stable flies preferentially oviposit on sites offering conspecific eggs with egg‐derived airborne semiochemicals. Egg‐borne bacterial symbionts, and Serratia marcescens in particular, produce odorants which attract gravid female flies and elicit oviposition.

Development of Zeolite Imidazole Framework-Based Adsorbent for Effective Microextraction and Preconcentration of Histamine in Food Samples

open access: yesFoods
This study is the first to focus on the preconcentration and determination of histamine (HIS) in food samples using zeolite imidazole frameworks (ZIFs) on a solid-phase microextraction (SPME) platform.

Efficient Low-Cost Procedure for Microextraction of Estrogen from Environmental Water Using Magnetic Ionic Liquids

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
In this study, three magnetic ionic liquids (MILs) were investigated for extraction of four estrogens, i.e., estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), estriol (E3), and ethinylestradiol (EE2), from environmental water.

Two Metschnikowia nectar yeast species have similar volatile profiles but elicit differential foraging in bee pollinators

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
Yeasts that specialize in flower nectar play an important role in pollination ecology. Metschnikowia reukaufii and Metschnikowia koreensis were the most prevalent nectar yeasts found in our field sites. Bee pollinators exhibited different behavioural responses to nectar yeasts in field experiments. Bees visited more flowers with M.

Advanced Techniques for Quantification of N-nitrosodiethanolamine in Cosmetic Products [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, 2023
Cosmetics are daily chemical industrial products used for cleaning, health care, and beauty purposes. Sometimes these products are contaminated by heavy metals, unwanted chemicals, and other dangerous substances that can lead to environmental pollution ...

Do aphid endosymbiotic bacteria influence parasitoid searching behaviour through changes in aphid honeydew production?

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
Hamiltonella defensa infection increases honeydew production in certain aphid genotypes, potentially modifying aphid feeding behaviour. Parasitoid wasps, Aphidius ervi, are more attracted to honeydew from H. defensa‐infected aphids; though larger honeydew amounts may slightly deter searching.
