Reversal of aging-induced increases in aortic stiffness by targeting cytoskeletal protein-protein interfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND: The proximal aorta normally functions as a critical shock absorber that protects small downstream vessels from damage by pressure and flow pulsatility generated by the heart during systole.

Liver Stiffness Rises Early in MASLD and Drives Inflammation, Lipid Dysmetabolism, and Fibrosis via Piezo1–YAP Mechanotransduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Progressive stiffening of the hepatic extracellular matrix and free fatty acid overload activate the mechanosensor Piezo1 in steatotic hepatocytes, inducing calcium influx and nuclear translocation of Yes‐associated protein. YAP‐dependent nuclear signaling further drives inflammatory and fibrotic gene programs, lipid metabolic reprogramming, and ...

Regulation of the integrin αVβ3- actin filaments axis in early osteogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells under cyclic tensile stress

open access: yesCell Communication and Signaling, 2023
Background Integrins are closely related to mechanical conduction and play a crucial role in the osteogenesis of human mesenchymal stem cells. Here we wondered whether tensile stress could influence cell differentiation through integrin αVβ3.

Defects in leaf epidermis of Arabidopsis thaliana plants with CDKA;1 activity reduced in the shoot apical meristem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In Arabidopsis thaliana, like in other dicots, the shoot epidermis originates from protodermis, the outermost cell layer of shoot apical meristem. We examined leaf epidermis in transgenic A.

Enhanced Responsivity, Accuracy, and Stability of Aerosol Jet Printing via Mechanical Switching Valve Assisted Internal Shuttering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates ultra‐high ON‐OFF responsivity of AJP by mechanical switching valve assisted shuttering. The jet relaxation and ON‐OFF delay are substantially eliminated from greater than 35 s, maintaining patterning quality independent of the variations of printing parameters, permitting excellent process stability and universality.

Internalization of Leptospira interrogans via diverse endocytosis mechanisms in human macrophages and vascular endothelial cells.

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2022
Leptospirosis, one of the leading global causes of morbidity and mortality, is an emerging public health problem, particularly in large urban centers of developing countries.

Fresh insights into the light‐induced pineal gland circadian rhythm transmission mechanism derived from mRNA and miRNA profiling

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Mechanisms of light in regulating the chick pineal clock. Abstract The circadian clock significantly impacts animal health and productivity, with light playing a crucial role in regulating circadian rhythms. However, the mechanisms behind light‐induced circadian transmission remain unclear, particularly in light‐sensitive avian species.

RETRACTED: Endocytic recycling and vesicular transport systems mediate transcytosis of Leptospira interrogans across cell monolayer

open access: yeseLife, 2019
Many bacterial pathogens can cause septicemia and spread from the bloodstream into internal organs. During leptospirosis, individuals are infected by contact with Leptospira-containing animal urine-contaminated water.

Ezrin expression in female reproductive tissues: A review of regulation and pathophysiological implications

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2023
Ezrin, a plasma membrane-microfilament linker, is a cytoskeletal organizer involved in many cellular activities by binding to the membrane protein-ezrin-cytoskeletal protein complex and regulating downstream signal transduction.

Force stimulation promotes nerve regeneration by restoring cellular energy

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Mechanical stimulation can help nerves regenerate in various ways. We developed two devices (a piezo‐motor‐driven stretching device and a SAW‐based actuator) to apply mechanical stimulation to sciatic nerve and DRG neurons. Our study shows that appropriate mechanical force stimulation can promote regeneration by restoring the energy supply to the ...
