Ultrastructure of Loa loa microfilaria

International Journal for Parasitology, 1983
Abstract The ultrastructure of Loa loa microfilaria was elucidated by the usc of scanning and transmission electron microscopy during the examination of microfiIariae for the presence of intracellular bacteria. In general, the structure of the sheath, body wall, nerve ring, amphids, phasmids, excretory and anal vesicles, central body, and the R ...

Microfilariae in the mammary gland of a bitch

Veterinary Record, 1994
A microfilarial infection of the mammary gland of a bitch with Dirofilaria immitis was diagnosed by fine needle aspiration biopsy. The animal had had a progressively enlarging, painful, pendulous, cystic swelling, measuring 12 x 18 cm, in the second left abdominal mammary gland for four to five months.

Relationship between the Number of Circulating Microfilariae and the Total Population of Microfilariae in a Host

The Journal of Parasitology, 1974
The levels of circulating microfilariae in dogs infected with Dirofilaria immitis remain relatively constant after infusion or removal of large numbers of microfilariae. When uninfected dogs were injected with microfilariae, only 7% were present in the peripheral circulation, if their number was calculated from the animal's blood volume and level of ...

Microfilaria: not always associated with eosinophilia

Tropical Doctor, 2019
Filariasis is a parasitic infection seen predominantly in tropical and subtropical countries including India. In clinically suspected cases, examining a thick wet mount smear or a buffy coat film is most informative. In unsuspected cases, however, eosinophilia in a peripheral blood smear (PBS) may be the sole indicator of parasitaemia.

The periodicity of microfilariae. XIII. Movements of Dipetalonema witei microfilariae in the lungs

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1967
Abstract A cinematograph study was made of the movements of the microfilariae of Dipetalonema witei in the capillaries of the lung with active circulation. A study was also made of the microfilariae of Foleyella sp. in the lungs of the frog. The capillaries are always much wider than the microfilariae which pass through them. The basic movement of a

A New Staining Technique For Microfilariae

Stain Technology, 1978
A rapid whole mount staining method is described to identify and differentiate microfilariae without elaborate processing. A single solution combining Hoyer's mounting medium and hematoxylin stain facilitates light microscopic examination of nuclei and sheaths of microfilariae. The new technique stains microfilariae adequately in three to seven minutes
