Ultrasound enhancement of microfiltration performance for natural organic matter removal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Sonication of water at 1500 W power prior to microfiltration showed that short sonication times (60 s) gave a reduced flux decline. It is suggested that a less potent, smaller molecular form of the natural organic matter (NOM) was produced by sonication.

Model selection and model averaging on mortality of upper gastrointestinal bleed patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Model Selection (MS) is known to produce uncertainty into model-building process. Besides that, the process of MS is complex and time consuming. Therefore, Model Averaging (MA) had been proposed as an alternative to overcome the issues.

Investigation of factors affecting sodium alginate fouling mechanisms in a microfiltration process under non-constant-flux and non-constant-pressure conditions

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2023
Variations in transmembrane pressure and permeate flux are closely related to membrane fouling. In this study, a laboratory-scale submerged microfiltration system was used to investigate the influence of sodium alginate (SA) concentration and peristaltic

Influence of Somatic Cell Removal on Milk Quality and Yield

open access: yesBeverages, 2023
This investigation aimed to assess how the somatic cell count (SCC) impacts milk production and the physicochemical quality of milk, including the effects of centrifugation and microfiltration on SCCs and the yield of fresh cheese.

Comparison of Different Separation Methods for Solids Removal in an Ethanol Fermentation Broth from Banana Culture Waste

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2014
New alternatives for alcohol production from low-cost feedstocks, such as lignocellulosic biomasses, have been proposed. Banana wastes are an example of these substrates. Existing applications involve the use of the fruit, leaves and other residues, such

Optimization of the flux values in multichannel ceramic membrane microfiltration of Baker`s yeast suspension [PDF]

open access: yesActa Periodica Technologica, 2016
The objective of this work was to estimate the effects of the operating parameters on the baker's yeast microfiltration through multichannel ceramic membrane. The selected parameters were transmembrane pressure, suspension feed flow, and initial

Low fouling conditions in dead-end filtration: Evidence for a critical filtered volume and interpretation using critical osmotic pressure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This paper presents experiments showing the existence of a critical filtered volume (CFV) when operating colloid dead-end filtration. The CFV is here defined as the filtered volume below which there is no irreversible (with respect to a break in the ...

Slow colloidal aggregation and membrane fouling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We observed that the concept of critical flux, although established on physical bases, does not describe all typical fouling situations found in membrane filtration.
