Heat Transfer Mechanisms for Condensation and Vaporization Inside a Microfin Tube

Journal of Enhanced Heat Transfer, 2002
Experimental tests using R22 were conducted to measure the condensation coefficient and the vaporization coefficient inside a given microfin tube (Wolverine DX-75). Data were also taken for nucleate pool boiling on a plain surface and on the microfin surface.

Comparative analysis of microfin vs smooth tubes in R32 and R410A boiling

International Journal of Refrigeration, 2021
Abstract This study performs the comparative analysis of R32 and R410A boiling inside a 4.2 mm ID microfin tube. The experimental tests were carried out at different saturation temperatures, different vapour qualities, heat fluxes and mass velocities to evaluate the specific contribution of each operating parameter.

Visualization of the Heat Transfer Enhancement During Condensation in a Microfin Tube

Volume 2: Fora, 2006
Microfins tubes are largely used in refrigeration industry for in-tube refrigerant condensation, because of the heat transfer enhancement when compared to equivalent smooth tubes under the same operating conditions. But not much evidence about the effect of microfins on the condensation flow patterns is available in the open literature.

Condensation flow patterns inside plain and microfin tubes: A review

International Journal of Refrigeration, 2013
Nowadays, plain and microfin tubes are largely used in refrigeration and air conditioning industries for condensation inside macroscale tubes. The mechanisms of condensation heat transfer and pressure drop are tightly linked with the prevailing two-phase flow regime, but not much evidence about the effect of microfins on the condensation flow patterns ...

Modelling of evaporation and condensation pressure drop in microfin tubes

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2005
A semi-empirical model to predict the pressure drop of pure refrigerants and refrigerant mixtures in microfin tubes for both condensation and evaporation is presented. The new pressure-drop model is based on an existing smooth-tube correlation.

A Theoretical Study of Film Condensation in Horizontal Microfin Tubes

Journal of Heat Transfer, 2001
A stratified flow model of film condensation in helically grooved, horizontal microfin tubes has been developed. The height of stratified condensate was estimated by extending the Taitel and Dukler model for a smooth tube to a microfin tube. For the upper part of the tube exposed to the vapor flow, laminar film condensation due to the combined effects ...

Convective Condensation Inside Horizontal Smooth and Microfin Tubes

Journal of Heat Transfer, 2014
An experimental investigation was performed for convective condensation of R410A inside one smooth tube (3.78 mm, inner diameter) and six microfin tubes (4.54, 4.6 and 8.98 mm, fin root diameter) of different geometries for mass fluxes ranging from 99 to 603 kg m−2s−1.

Effects of fin shape on condensation in herringbone microfin tubes

International Journal of Refrigeration, 2003
Effects of fin height and helix angle on condensation inside a herringbone microfin tube have been experimentally investigated with five types of herringbone microfin tubes. Heat transfer coefficients are about 2–4 times higher than that of the helical microfin tube under high mass velocity conditions.

Review of In-Tube Condensation Heat Transfer Correlations for Smooth and Microfin Tubes

Heat Transfer Engineering, 2003
This article provides a comprehensive review of the published literature on inside-tube condensation heat transfer correlations for smooth and microfin tubes with an emphasis on correlations used in air conditioning and refrigeration. The correlations presented are discussed and evaluated with experimental data from different authors for different ...

Numerical simulation of R410A condensation in horizontal microfin tubes

Numerical Heat Transfer, Part A: Applications, 2017
ABSTRACTThe heat transfer characteristics of condensation for R410A inside horizontal microfin tubes with 0° and 18° helical angles were investigated numerically. The numerical data fit well with the experimental results and with the empirical correlations.
