Pressure Drop During Refrigerant Condensation Inside Horizontal Smooth, Helical Microfin, and Herringbone Microfin Tubes

Journal of Heat Transfer, 2004
This paper presents a study of pressure drops during condensation inside a smooth, an 18-deg helical microfin, and a herringbone microfin tube. Measurements were conducted with refrigerant flowing through the tube of a concentric heat exchanger, with water flowing in a counterflow direction in the annulus.

A General Frictional Pressure Drop Correlation for Condensation in Microfin Tubes

Volume 1B, Symposia: Fluid Measurement and Instrumentation; Fluid Dynamics of Wind Energy; Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conversion; Energy and Process Engineering; Microfluidics and Nanofluidics; Development and Applications in Computational Fluid Dynamics; DNS/LES and Hybrid RANS/LES Methods, 2017
Experimental pressure drop data of condensation from the previous literature were collected to develop a general frictional pressure drop correlation for horizontal micro-fin tubes. The collected database contained 481 data points, covering nine working fluids at average saturated condensing temperatures ranging between 14 and 65°C, with mass ...

A new flow pattern map for flow boiling in microfin tubes

International Journal of Multiphase Flow, 2015
Abstract The flow patterns during flow boiling of R134a in a horizontal microfin tube have been measured optically in a contiguous glass tube. The microfin tube is made of copper with a total fin number of 60 and a helix angle of 18 ° . The fin height is 0.25 mm and the inner tube diameter at fin root is 8.72 mm. The copper tube is 0.5 m long.

Evaporation in Microfin Tubes: A Generalized Prediction Model.

1999
A new flow boiling model and generalized correlation are presented for evaporation inside of horizontal microfin tubes. The enhancement model incorporates the effects of the microfins on liquid-phase convection and nucleate boiling. The method predicts microfin test data for R-134a and R-123 over the mass velocity range from 100-500 kg/m2s, vapor ...

Prediction of condensation pressure drop inside herringbone microfin tubes

International Journal of Refrigeration, 2011
Abstract A generalized prediction correlation of condensation pressure drop inside herringbone microfin tubes has been proposed which includes the new empirical correlation of two-phase frictional multiplier and author’s previously proposed correlation of single-phase friction factor for herringbone microfin tubes. Three existing correlations and the

Boiling of R–134 and R–123 in a microfin tube.

1995
Local flow boiling heat transfer coefficients were measured for R-134a and R- 123 evaporating inside a microfin tube for horizontal flow and vertical upflow over a wide range of mass velocities, vapor qualities and heat flux. The objective was to study the effect of tube orientation on microfin heat transfer, primarly to gain more insight into how ...

R1224yd(Z) Flow Boiling inside a Mini Microfin Tube

2019
This paper presents the R1224yd(Z) flow boiling heat transfer and pressure drop measurements inside a mini microfin tube with internal diameter at the fin tip of 4.2 mm. The microfin tube was brazed inside a copper plate and electrically heated from the bottom. Sixteen T-type thermocouples are located in the copper plate to monitor the wall temperature.
