Review and prospects of shear test of bolted rock joints
The laboratory shear test equipment, test method, and numerical simulation of bolted rock joints were summarized. The shortcomings and limitations of the current research were analyzed, and the research prospects were proposed. Abstract Rock bolting is a critical approach in geotechnical engineering for supporting weak rocks.

Leibniz's Alleged Ambivalence About Sensible Qualities [PDF]
Leibniz has been accused of being ambivalent about the nature of sensible qualities such as color, heat, and sound. According to the critics, he unwittingly vacillates between the view that these qualities are really just complex mechanical qualities of ...

A novel cavity contraction solution and multilayer shaft wall model were developed to analyze deep shaft stability, considering rock viscosity, support structures, and water pressure, with successful validation through a Hulusu Coal Mine case study.

Stress in dilute suspensions [PDF]
Generally, two types of theory are used to describe the field equations for suspensions. The so-called postulated equations are based on the kinetic theory of mixtures, which logically should give reasonable equations for solutions. The basis for the use

Impact-induced acceleration by obstacles
We explore a surprising phenomenon in which an obstruction accelerates, rather than decelerates, a moving flexible object. It has been claimed that the right kind of discrete chain falling onto a table falls \emph{faster} than a free-falling body.

This review elucidates the velocity–dispersion–attenuation coupling mechanisms of wave propagation in rock masses, compares six representative models, and reveals how pressure, temperature, mineral composition, and anisotropy jointly control dynamic responses in complex geological media.

Observation of the Thermal Casimir Force is Open to Question
We discuss theoretical predictions for the thermal Casimir force and compare them with available experimental data. Special attention is paid to the recent claim of the observation of that effect, as predicted by the Drude model approach.

ABSTRACT Geometrically nonlinear static analysis of materially imperfect composite doubly curved shells is investigated via the generalised differential quadrature method. The effects of both shear and thickness deformation are considered through a thickness‐ and shear‐deformable third‐order theory formulated in curvilinear coordinates, while the ...

ABSTRACT Interparticle cohesive forces play a crucial role in governing the shear behavior of many soils; however, quantifying this effect remains challenging due to limited microscopic insights available from laboratory experiments. In this context, the current study aims to investigate the influence of microscale cohesion on the shear response using ...
