Micromilling of metallic materials
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2003Abstract In these days one of the most important field of interests lies in the manufacturing of miniaturized parts. The economical and flexible alternative for production in small and medium lot sizes is machining with miniature, fine-grained carbide end mill.

MICROMILLING IN MINIMUM QUANTITY LUBRICATION
Machining Science and Technology, 2012This study investigates micromilling of 316 L stainless steel under minimum quantity lubrication. A laser-based technique was developed to measure spindle runout and assist tool setting for fragile micro cutting tools. Thresholds were established to help select cutting parameters and avoid catastrophic tool failure.

Tool deflection model for micromilling processes
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2014Research in micromilling processes has found that tool deflection phenomenon affects the forces significantly, causing a smoothing effect in the tool run-out. Therefore, this needed to be taken into account to design a model for reliably predicting the cutting forces in these processes.

Micromilling Responses of Hierarchical Graphene Composites
Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, 2015The objective of this research is to examine the micromachining responses of a hierarchical three-phase composite made up of microscale glass fibers that are held together by an epoxy matrix, laden with nanoscale graphene platelets (GPL). To this end, micromilling experiments are performed on both a hierarchical graphene composite as well as on a ...

Micromilling of microbarbs for medical implants
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2008Abstract Successful application of many implantable medical devices often depends on the technique used for attaching the devices to living tissue. Although mechanical attachment techniques that use micro-scale piercing elements are very promising, the fabrication of the micro-scale piercing elements poses considerable challenges.

Pavement Preservation with Micromilling in Georgia
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2012The micromilling technique to mill asphalt surface mix continues to be studied in the state of Georgia as part of a pavement preservation treatment in conjunction with thin asphalt overlays. Earlier research showed the results of micromilling on a deteriorated open-graded surface, which was overlaid with a new open-graded surface on I-75, south of ...

Miniature flow-injection analysis manifold created by micromilling
Talanta, 2003The miniature flow injection analysis (muFIA) system is based on a mechanically engraved manifold in a PMMA-substrate. The channels have a trapezoidal cross-section with a depth of 150 mum and a width between 180 and 360 mum and the reactor volume is 3.75 mul. A light-emitting diode (LED) is used as radiation source for absorbance detection and optical

Multi-Axis Control Ultraprecision Micromilling
Key Engineering Materials, 2010In recent years, ultraprecision micromachining technology draws wide attention. In particular, multi-axis control ultraprecision machine tools are playing an important role in producing complicated microparts made of a variety of materials. In addition, CAM software is also an essential element to control these machine tools.

Micromilling development and applications for microfabrication
Microelectronic Engineering, 1997Abstract In conventional machining, milling is the most versatile of the cutting processes. Micromechanical milling has also been shown to be a very versatile and repid method for the removal of material and the creation of microstructures. These microstructures range form direct fabrication of molds in polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) to direct ...

Built-Up-Edge Formation in Micromilling
Volume 2A: Advanced Manufacturing, 2015This paper presents experimental study on conditions for built-up-edge (BUE) formation and its effects in micromilling. Surface finish and BUE area density on a micromilled surface are used to quantify the presence of BUE. A model for surface finish is derived based on the topography of milled surface and tool geometry.
