Micronutrient Deficiencies and Cognitive Functioning [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Nutrition, 2003
The relationship between four micronutrient deficiencies (iodine, iron, zinc and vitamin B-12) and children's cognitive functioning is reviewed. Iodine deficiency during pregnancy has negative and irreversible effects on the developing fetus. Although there is some evidence that postnatal iodine deficiency is associated with cognitive deficits, the ...

Reprogramming M2b Macrophages via GPX1 Activation by Selenium Nanoparticles Attenuates Lupus Nephritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SeZM NPs selectively target M2b macrophages through mannose–MRC1 (CD206) recognition, enhance GPX1 biosynthesis, and suppress mitochondrial ROS generation, oxidative stress, and JAK–STAT signaling. This dual regulation reduces pro‐inflammatory cytokine release, limits immune cell infiltration and fibrosis, and preserves renal function, providing a ...

Asymmetric Cu─N─Ru Bridgedsite Nanozyme‐Loaded Injectable Thermogel Boosts Cuproptosis‐Like Death for Multidrug‐Resistant Urinary Tract Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To address multidrug‐resistant urinary tract infections (MDR‐UTIs), we developed Cu‐ZIF8‐Ru nanozyme featuring an asymmetric Cu─N─Ru catalytic site. This unique structure enhances multienzyme‐mimetic activity, eradicating resistant bacteria by inducing a cuproptosis‐like death pathway through intracellular Cu2+ accumulation and energy depletion.

Supplementation of micronutrients in community micronutrient deficiency prevention programmes

open access: yesAnnals of Ibadan Postgraduate Medicine, 2011
Micronutrient deficiency affects about 2 billion people all over the world. The major micronutrient deficiencies which are of public health importance include vitamin A, iron and iodine deficiencies. The deficiencies of these micronutrients cause a variety of morbidities and increased mortality which are most severe in children, adolescent girls and ...

Gel‐Amin for Improving Extracellular Recordings of Cardiomyocytes in a 3D Microphysiological System

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This work combines a conductive collagen‐based hydrogel with a laser‐cut and assembly technique to fabricate microphysiological systems that improve extracellular recordings of cardiomyocytes in 3D on microelectrode arrays. The inclusion of choline acrylate into GelMA imparts a higher electrical conductivity and improves the signal‐to‐noise ratio of on‐

Multisectoral Convergence of Food, Nutrition and Sanitation Programs for Child Health: Evidence From Country‐Level Programs in India

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper underscores the critical role of multisectoral convergence in enhancing child health, particularly in addressing anemia, a micronutrient deficiency linked to both diet and sanitation. We explore how the integration of nationwide food and nutrition programs with sanitation initiatives impacts anemia in Indian children under three ...
