Oxidation of energy substrates in tissues of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides)

Amino Acids, 2020
This study tested the hypothesis that amino acids are oxidized at higher rates than glucose and palmitate for ATP production in tissues of largemouth bass (LMB, a carnivorous fish). Slices (10 to 50 mg) of liver, proximal intestine, kidney, and skeletal muscle isolated from LMB were incubated at 26 °C for 2 h in oxygenated Krebs-Henseleit bicarbonate ...

Motor basis of suction feeding performance in largemouth bass,Micropterus salmoides

The Journal of Experimental Zoology, 1997
We examined the relationship between cranial muscle activity and buccal pres- sure during suction feeding by the largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides. Buccal pressure was recorded simultaneously with electromyograms (EMG) from four muscles that function promi- nently during the strike, including three expansive phase muscles (levator arcus palatini ...

Hepcidin contributes to largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) against bacterial infections

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules
The increasing emergence and dissemination of bacterial pathogens in largemouth bass culture accelerate the desire for new treatment measures. Antimicrobial peptides as the host's antimicrobial source dominate the preferred molecules for discovering antibacterial agents.

Triploidy Induction in Largemouth Bass,Micropterus salmoides

Journal of Applied Aquaculture, 1992
Triploid largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides, were produced by using hydrostatic pressure treatments five minutes after fertilization. Treatments ranged from 4,000 p.s.i. for 3 minutes to 8,000 p.s.i. for 1 minute was best, yielding 100% triploids and a relatively low mortality.

Induced Spawning of Largemouth Bass [Micropterus salmoides (Lacépède)]

Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 1973
Abstract When water temperature and photoperiod were manipulated, largemouth bass were induced to spawn successfully in laboratory tanks during the months of December, January, February, May, June and July.

A produção comercial de Achigãs (Micropterus salmoides)

2012

Sun-Compass Orientation in Juvenile Largemouth Bass, Micropterus salmoides

Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 1977
Abstract Juvenile largemouth bass were tested for manifestations of sun-compass orientation. Fish captured from opposite sides of a pond were tested in a circular pool on clear days and on overcast days. When released from the center of the pool on clear days, the fish swam to the wall of the pool in the compass direction that would have taken them to ...

Micropterus dolomieui Smallmouth bass — upper karyotype — male / Micropterus salmoides Largemouth bass — lower karyotype — female

1971
These closely related species have indistinguishable karyotypes, and are herein grouped together with a male of one and female of the other species. The karyotypes consist of 22 pairs of one-arm chromosomes and one pair of two-arm chromosomes and one pair of two-arm chromosomes.

Specific Dynamic Action and Diet in Largemouth Bass, Micropterus salmoides (Lacépède)

The Journal of Nutrition, 1980
Apparent specific dynamic action (SDA) in largemouth bass (5-28 g) was equated to oxygen uptake subsequent to the ingestion of a meal. The effects of six diets on apparent SDA were investigated, one balanced or standard diet and five consisting of different proportions of protein and carbohydrate.
