Formation of two-dimensional MoS2 and one-dimensional MoO2 nanowire hybrids

open access: yesApplied Microscopy, 2019
Oxidation of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides have received great interests because it significantly influences their electrical, optical, and catalytic properties. Monoclinic MoO2 nanowires grow along the zigzag direction of 2D MoS2

Combined Kelvin probe force microscopy and secondary ion mass spectrometry for hydrogen detection in corroded 2024 aluminium alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The capability of Kelvin probe force microscopy (KFM) to detect and locate hydrogen in corroded 2024 aluminium alloy was demonstrated. Hydrogen was introduced inside the 2024 alloy following a cyclic corrosion test consisting of cycles of immersion in 1 ...

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Transfer of tilted sample information in transmission electron microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
When a transmission electron microscope is used in imaging mode, information carried by the sample function is transformed by the optics of the instrument during the imaging process.

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

In-situ confocal laser scanning microscopy of the solidification processes of white iron/steel composites

open access: yes, 2012
The complex interaction between molten high chromium white cast iron and a mild steel substrate was studied. Confocal laser scanning microscopy permitted in situ imaging of the reacting phases while X-ray compositional mapping was used after the heat ...

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Correlative x-ray microscopy and transmission electron microscopy for ultrastructural analysis of zebrafish tissue

open access: yesApplied Microscopy
We established a correlative workflow combining X-ray microscopy (XRM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to investigate the ultrastructure of zebrafish neuromasts.
