Junctional microstructure of the non-sticky spiral scaffold in the golden orb web spider, Trichonephila clavata

open access: yesApplied Microscopy
The non-sticky spiral silk, which typically serves as a temporary structural component in most orb-weaving spiders, functions as a permanent scaffold in the golden orb-web spider (Trichonephila clavata).

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

The autophagy research in electron microscopy

open access: yesApplied Microscopy, 2019
Autophagy, a highly conserved process of eukaryotic cellular recycling, plays an important role in cell survival and maintenance. Dysfunctional autophagy contributes to the pathologies of many human diseases.

Microstructure imaging with diffusion MRI and microscopy

open access: yes, 2021
Diffusion MRI is a powerful, non-invasive tool for microstructure imaging because of its sensitivity to structures on the microscopic scale. By analysing the diffusion signal we can infer the structural connectivity of the human brain or changes in the ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Research reviews on myosin head interactions with F-actin

open access: yesApplied Microscopy
The sliding filament theory and the cross-bridge model have been fundamental in understanding muscle contraction. While the cross-bridge model explains the interaction between a single myosin head and actin filament, the native myosin molecule consists ...

High-resolution low-dose scanning transmission electron microscopy

open access: yes, 2010
During the past two decades instrumentation in scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) has pushed toward higher intensity electron probes to increase the signal-to-noise ratio of recorded images.

ImageJ for Microscopy

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2007
ImageJ is an essential tool for us that fulfills most of our routine image processing and analysis requirements. The near-comprehensive range of import filters that allow easy access to image and meta-data, a broad suite processing and analysis routine, and enthusiastic support from a friendly mailing list are invaluable for all microscopy labs and ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
