Residual stress and microstructural characterization using Rietveld refinement of a carburized layer in a 5120 steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Rietveld refinement of X-ray diffraction patterns has been used to provide microstructural information complementary to conventional X-ray residual stress measurements through a carburized layer containing a maximum vol.

Microstructure Refinement of Structural Steel in China

open access: yesISIJ International, 2003
In Oct. 1998 Chinese government opened national program: Fundamental Research on New Generation of Iron and Steel Materials in China (N.G. Steels). The progress of on-going project has been briefly reported in this paper. In order to get microstructure refinement in structural steels, the following 5 ways have been studied: For Ferrite+Pearlite ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Freeze–Thaw Durability Enhancement of Cement Mortar Incorporating Milled RHA: Hydration Kinetics, Microstructural Refinement, and Strength Evolution

open access: yesBuildings
Large quantities of agricultural waste, particularly rice husk ash (RHA), are generated worldwide each year, and the lack of rational, value-added disposal pathways poses both environmental and resource-utilization challenges.

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

On the Effect of Multi-Pass Friction Stir Processing on Microstructure-Tensile Deformation Behavior Relationships in Cast Al-7%Si-0.4%Mg Specimens

open access: yesMetals
Specimens from commercial and continuously cast A356 ingots have been friction stir-processed, and tensile deformation has been characterized. These two types of ingots have been found to be damaged in the liquid state, but at different levels.

The effect of the austenite grain refinement on the tensile and impact properties of cast Hadfield steel [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2018
This paper studied the effect of the austenite grain refinement on the tensile and impact properties of a cast Hadfield steel (12 % Mn, 1.2 %C and 0.65 % Si). The austenite grain refinement was obtained by hafnium inoculation.

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

Small-angle neutron scattering investigations of nanocrystalline alloy chips obtained by machining

open access: yesCogent Engineering, 2014
Ultrafine-grained (UFG) materials exhibit significantly enhanced mechanical properties. This has brought renewed attention on the use of large strain or severe plastic deformation as a means for achieving microstructural refinement in metals and alloys ...

Residual stress characterization in friction stir welds of alloy 625

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2019
Alloy 625 (UNS N06625) welded sheets were evaluated in the present study. Friction stir welding (FSW) was performed in a range of tool rotational speed from 1200 to 200 rpm, welding speed from 1.0 to 1.5 mm/s and constant axial force.
