Research of parameters of fusion splices of telecommunication multimode optical fibers and silica microstructured fiber lightguides with hexagonal configuration

open access: yesНаучно-технический вестник информационных технологий, механики и оптики
This work presents the results of experimental approbation of the ability to fuse telecommunication graded index multimode optical fibers of ISO/IEC Category OM2+/OM3 and silica microstructured optical fibers by using a commercially available field ...

Efficiency of dispersive wave generation in dual concentric core microstructured fiber

open access: yes, 2015
We describe the generation of powerful dispersive waves that are observed when pumping a dual concentric core microstructured fiber by means of a sub-nanosecond laser emitting at the wavelength of~1064 nm.

Normal‐Appearing White Matter Injury Mediates Chronic Deep Venous Hypoxia and Disease Progression in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore how cerebral hypoxia and Normal‐Appearing White Matter (NAWM) integrity affect MS lesion burden and clinical course. Methods Seventy‐nine MS patients, including 13 clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and 66 relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients, and 44 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited from ...

Three-dimensional femtosecond laser nanolithography of crystals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Nanostructuring hard optical crystals has so far been exclusively feasible at their surface, as stress induced crack formation and propagation has rendered high precision volume processes ineffective. We show that the inner chemical etching reactivity of

Soft-glass imaging microstructured optical fibers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2018
We demonstrate the fabrication of multi-core (imaging) microstructured optical fiber via soft-glass preform extrusion through a 3D printed titanium die. The combination of extrusion through 3D printed dies and structured element (capillary) stacking allows for unprecedented control of the optical fiber geometry.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Tuning of the Brillouin scattering properties in microstructured optical fibers by liquid infiltration

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
We demonstrate the possibility to modify the Brillouin scattering properties of a microstructured pure-silica core optical fiber, by infiltrating a liquid inside its holes. In particular, we show that the dependence of the Brillouin frequency shift (BFS)

Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor Based on Double-Sided Polished Microstructured Optical Fiber Coated With Graphene-on-Silver Layers

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2022
We propose a concept of surface plasmon resonance sensor based on double-sided polished microstructured optical fiber coated with graphene-on-silver layers.

Stabilized large mode area in tapered photonic crystal fiber for stable coupling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A rigorous modal solution approach based on the numerically efficient finite element method (FEM) has been used to design a tapered photonic crystal fiber with a large mode area that could be efficiently coupled to an optical fiber.

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...
