Optofluidics in Microstructured Optical Fibers [PDF]
In this paper, we review the development and applications of optofluidics investigated based on the platform of microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) that have miniature air channels along the light propagating direction.

Optical Fiber Sensors Based on Microstructured Optical Fibers to Detect Gases and Volatile Organic Compounds—A Review [PDF]
Since the first publications related to microstructured optical fibers (MOFs), the development of optical fiber sensors (OFS) based on them has attracted the interest of many research groups because of the market niches that can take advantage of their ...

Symmetry and degeneracy in microstructured optical fibers [PDF]
The symmetry of an optical waveguide determines its modal degeneracies. A fiber with rotational symmetry of order higher than 2 has modes that either are nondegenerate and support the complete fiber symmetry or are twofold degenerate pairs of lower symmetry.

Confinement losses in microstructured optical fibers [PDF]
We describe a multipole formulation that can be used for high-accuracy calculations of the full complex propagation constant of a microstructured optical fiber with a finite number of holes. We show how the imaginary part of the microstructure, which describes confinement losses not associated with absorption, varies with hole size, the number of rings

Comparison between Different Structures of Suspended-Core Microstructured Optical Fibers for Volatiles Sensing [PDF]
In this paper, different core structures of microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) for low-finesse Fabry–Pérot (FP) sensors are experimentally compared to get the highest sensitivity. These devices are designed for volatile organic compounds (

Microstructured optical fibers: where??s the edge?
We establish that Microstructured Optical Fibers (MOFs) have a fundamental mode cutoff, marking the transition between modal confinement and non-confinement, and give insight into the nature of this transition through two asymptotic models that provide a mapping to conventional fibers.

Soft glass based specialty optical fibers and their applications - INVITED [PDF]
This paper describes a prospect for broadband mid-infrared (mid-IR) highly coherent supercontinuum generation. Tellurite and chalcogenide glass with high transparency up to the mid-IR range are used as fiber materials.

Twisted Silica Microstructured Optical Fiber with Equiangular Spiral Six-Ray Geometry
This work presents fabricated silica microstructured optical fiber with special equiangular spiral six-ray geometry, an outer diameter of 125 µm (that corresponds to conventional commercially available telecommunication optical fibers of ratified ITU-T ...

Superlattice Microstructured Optical Fiber [PDF]
A generic three-stage stack-and-draw method is demonstrated for the fabrication of complex-microstructured optical fibers. We report the fabrication and characterization of a silica superlattice microstructured fiber with more than 800 rhomboidally arranged air-holes. A polarization-maintaining fiber with a birefringence of 8.5 × 10−4 is demonstrated.
