Fabrication Quality Assessment Based on the Coupling of a Dual-Core Microstructured Polymer Optical Fiber [PDF]

open access: yesSensors, 2021
In this paper we report on the theoretical analysis and fabrication of a dual-core microstructured polymer optical fiber (mPOF) and demonstrate how the coupling characteristics of a dual-core mPOF may be a key factor to assess the quality of the ...

The Fiber Connection Method Using a Tapered Silica Fiber Tip for Microstructured Polymer Optical Fibers [PDF]

open access: yesFibers, 2018
In this work, an alternative method of coupling light into microstructured polymer fibers is presented. The solution consists in using a fiber taper fabricated with a CO2 laser. The connection is formed by inserting a tapered silica tip into the holes of

Selective Serial Multi-Antibody Biosensing with TOPAS Microstructured Polymer Optical Fibers [PDF]

open access: yesSensors, 2013
We have developed a fluorescence-based fiber-optical biosensor, which can selectively detect different antibodies in serial at preselected positions inside a single piece of fiber.

Liquid-filled hollow core microstructured polymer optical fiber

open access: yesOptics Express, 2006
Guidance in a liquid core is possible with microstructured optical fibers, opening up many possibilities for chemical and biochemical fiber-optic sensing. In this work we demonstrate how the bandgaps of a hollow core microstructured polymer optical fiber scale with the refractive index of liquid introduced into the holes of the microstructure.

Fluorescence pH probe based on microstructured polymer optical fiber

open access: yesOptics Express, 2007
A kind of optical pH sensor was demonstrated that is based on a pH-sensitive fluorescence dye-doped (eosin) cellulose acetate (CA) thin-film modified microstructured polymer optical fiber (MPOF). It was obtained by directly inhaling an eosin-CA-acetic acid mixed solution into array holes in a MPOF and then removing the solvent (acetic acid).

Power Flow in Multimode Graded-Index Microstructured Polymer Optical Fibers

open access: yesPolymers, 2023
We investigate mode coupling in a multimode graded-index microstructured polymer optical fiber (GI mPOF) with a solid core by solving the time-independent power flow equation (TI PFE). Using launch beams with various radial offsets, it is possible to calculate for such an optical fiber the transients of the modal power distribution, the length Lc at ...

Wavelength dependent equilibrium mode distribution and steady-state distribution in double-clad W-type microstructured polymer optical fibers

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2022
This paper investigates wavelength dependence of equilibrium mode distribution and steady-state distribution in W-type (double-clad) microstructured polymer optical fibers (mPOFs) with a solid core for parametrically varied refractive index and width of ...

Synthesis of Carbon Nanodots from Sugarcane Syrup, and Their Incorporation into a Hydrogel-Based Composite to Fabricate Innovative Fluorescent Microstructured Polymer Optical Fibers

open access: yesGels, 2022
Carbon nanodots (CNDs) are interesting materials due to their intrinsic fluorescence, electron-transfer properties, and low toxicity. Here, we report a sustainable, cheap, and scalable methodology to obtain CNDs from sugarcane syrup using a domestic ...
