Liquid-filled hollow core microstructured polymer optical fiber

open access: yesOptics Express, 2006
Guidance in a liquid core is possible with microstructured optical fibers, opening up many possibilities for chemical and biochemical fiber-optic sensing. In this work we demonstrate how the bandgaps of a hollow core microstructured polymer optical fiber scale with the refractive index of liquid introduced into the holes of the microstructure.

Selective detection of antibodies in microstructured polymer optical fibers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2005
We demonstrate selective detection of fluorophore labeled antibodies from minute samples probed by a sensor layer of complementary biomolecules immobilized inside the air holes of microstructured Polymer Optical Fiber (mPOF). The fiber core is defined by a ring of 6 air holes and a simple procedure was applied to selectively capture either alpha ...

Fluorescence pH probe based on microstructured polymer optical fiber

open access: yesOptics Express, 2007
A kind of optical pH sensor was demonstrated that is based on a pH-sensitive fluorescence dye-doped (eosin) cellulose acetate (CA) thin-film modified microstructured polymer optical fiber (MPOF). It was obtained by directly inhaling an eosin-CA-acetic acid mixed solution into array holes in a MPOF and then removing the solvent (acetic acid).

Fabrication of functional microstructured optical fibers through a selective-filling technique [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We develop a method for the fabrication of functional microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) by selectively filling the air holes with liquid phase materials, where we utilize the dependence of filling speed on the size of the air holes.

Infiltration liquid crystal in microstructured polymer optical fibers [PDF]

open access: yesCLEO/Europe - EQEC 2009 - European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the European Quantum Electronics Conference, 2009
Here, we firstly demonstrate the photonic bandgap effect with PMMA mPOF by filling the air holes with liquid crystal, and subsequently change the light guidance mechanism from index guiding to bandgap guiding. The triangular structure PMMA mPOF used in the experiment is fabricated. A 60 cm length mPOF is butt-coupled to a conventional single mode fiber

Fabrication of Active Polymer Optical Fibers by Solution Doping and Their Characterization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This paper employs the solution-doping technique for the fabrication of active polymer optical fibers (POFs), in which the dopant molecules are directly incorporated into the core of non-doped uncladded fibers. Firstly, we characterize the insertion of a

Polymer microstructured optical fibers for terahertz wave guiding

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
We outline the most recent technological advancements in the design, fabrication and characterization of polymer microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) for applications in the terahertz waveband. Focusing on specific experimental demonstrations, we show that polymer optical fibers provide a very flexible route towards THz wave guiding.
