Adenosine Receptors of Cerebral Microvessels and Choroid Plexus

open access: yesJournal of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism, 1986
We studied, by ligand binding methods, the two adenosine receptors, A, and A2, in rat and pig cerebral microvessels and pig choroid plexus. Ligand binding to cerebral microvessels was compared with that to membranes of the cerebral cortex.

Synthetic microvessels

Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 2013
The microvasculature is an immense organ that defines the environmental conditions within tissues in both health and disease, and is vital for the proper functions of all tissues. Here, we describe existing tools to study vascular cell function and our work using one platform of in vitro microvessels, which we employed to study vessel structure and ...

Photopolymerized Polypyrrole Microvessels

Chemistry – A European Journal, 2011
AbstractWe report on the preparation of water‐filled polymer microvessels through the photopolymerization of pyrrole in a water/chloroform emulsion. The resulting structures were characterized by complementary spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, including Raman spectroscopy, XPS, SEM, and TEM. The encapsulation of fluorescent, magnetic, and ionic

Metabolism of renal microvessels

Microvascular Research, 1978
Abstract Metabolic profiles of renal arteriolar smooth muscle cells were constructed from semiquantitative histochemical analysis of biopsies from 20 mongrel dogs. Vessels ranging in outer wall diameter from 20 to 80 μm were analyzed for the presence and relative intensity of 14 enzymes and 3 substrates with attention being directed in particular to ...

Mechanical mechanisms for thrombosis in microvessels

2007 IEEE 33rd Annual Northeast Bioengineering Conference, 2006
The hypothesis that thrombus can be induced in curved vessels due to mechanical stimuli was tested both experimentally and computationally. Our in vivo experiments on the mesentery of Sprague-Dawley rats (250-300 g) showed that thrombi were formed in non-injured curved microvessels (post-capillary venules, 20-50 micrometer in diameter), and they were ...

Microvessel density for melanoma prognosis

Histopathology, 2005
Aims : Two‐hundred and four accessible cases of malignant melanoma from the Grampian region of Scotland, collected over a period of 4 years, were studied for standard prognostic indicators for comparison with microvessel density. Methods and results : The range of tumour thickness varied from in‐situ melanoma to 14.8 mm. Microvessel density was assessed

RESPONSES OF HEPATIC MICROVESSELS

Quarterly Journal of Experimental Physiology and Cognate Medical Sciences, 1972
The response of microvessels of the intact liver to various stimuli was observed in the anaesthetized rat by a modified transillumination technique, permitting photomicrography at any time during the direct microscopic observation. Adrenaline and noradrenaline appeared to have direct constrictor action on the portal venous branches, hepatic sinusoids ...

Neuronal Control of Microvessels

Annual Review of Physiology, 1980
Most studies of the neuronal control of the microcirculation have involved whole organ measurements of blood flow, tissue volume, or capillary filtra tion (61). Consequently, accounts of the responses of the different series coupled sections of a vascular bed-i.e.

Collagen of brain microvessel preparations

Microvascular Research, 1982
Abstract The collagen in rabbit brain microvessel preparations has been quantitated and partially characterized. Pancreatic elastase is employed to isolate an enriched insoluble collagen fraction. Approximately half of the collagen (as measured by the hydroxyproline content) in the microvessel preparations is associated with striated collagen fibers.
