Delay Linear Chains in Mathematical Biology: Migratory Birds, Stem Cell Maturation, and Intracellular Chlamydia Infection

2020
We consider a simple linear chain, which represents how organisms pass through a number of intermediate stages before reaching a final phase, allowing time delays between consecutive compartments. The final state of this linear system is determined explicitly as a function of initial data and transition rates. Three biological applications are provided:

DLIC1, but not DLIC2, is upregulated in colon cancer and this contributes to proliferative overgrowth and migratory characteristics of cancer cells

The FEBS Journal, 2019
Cytoplasmic dynein‐1 is a large minus‐end‐directed microtubule motor complex involved in membrane trafficking, organelle positioning, and microtubule organization.

Early Detection by Polymerase Chain Reaction of MigratoryTrichinella spiralisLarvae in Blood of Experimentally Infected Mice

Foodborne Pathogens and Disease, 2010
We studied the sensitivity of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for detecting DNA of migratory larvae of Trichinella spiralis at an early stage of infection with this parasite. We derived primers for PCR from a 1.6-kb repetitive sequence of the genome of T.

Detection of the Entomopathogenic FungusBeauveria bassianawithin Infected Migratory Grasshoppers (Melanoplus sanguinipes) Using Polymerase Chain Reaction and DNA Probe

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1996
Abstract Direct DNA probing was used as a means of detecting fungi within grasshoppers during the course of infection. Using previously constructedBeauveria bassiana-specific DNA probes, the fungus could be detected in the insect after 5 days postinoculation.

A chain is as strong as its weakest link: assessing the consequences of habitat loss and degradation in a long-distance migratory shorebird

Emu - Austral Ornithology, 2016
The conservation of migratory species represents a major challenge, as they use multiple sites, all contributing in varying degrees in sustaining high survival and reproductive success. There is particular concern for shorebirds of the East Asian–Australasian Flyway (EAAF), where declining numbers of migratory species have mostly been attributed to ...

Role of Radical Species in Salicylaldiminato Ni(II) Mediated Polymer Chain Growth: A Case Study for the Migratory Insertion Polymerization of Ethylene in the Presence of Methyl Methacrylate

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2015
To date, an inconclusive and partially contradictive picture exists on the behavior of neutral Ni(II) insertion polymerization catalysts toward methyl methacrylate (MMA). We shed light on this issue by a combination of comprehensive mechanistic NMR and EPR studies, isolation of a key Ni(I) intermediate, and pressure reactor studies with ethylene and ...

Remote Catalytic C(sp3)-H Alkylation via Relayed Carbenoid Transfer upon Olefin Chain Walking.

Journal of the American Chemical Society
Transition metal carbenes have emerged as versatile intermediates for various types of alkylations. While reactions of metal carbene species with alkenes have been extensively studied, most examples focus on cyclopropanation and allylic C-H insertion ...
