Mild-to-severe wear transition and transition region of oxidative wear in steels
Wear, 2013Abstract Dry sliding tests for steels were performed in air under the test temperature at 400 °C and the loads of 50–250 N. The wear behavior and characteristics were focused on to explore their general characters in severe conditions. The wear behavior of various steels presented a common wear regular pattern; a mild-to-severe wear transition ...

Aluminium-silicon alloy, an important material used for the construction of internal combustion engines, exhibit pressure induced distinct regimes of wear and friction; ultra-mild and mild. In this work the alloy is slid lubricated against a spherical steel pin at contact pressures characteristic of the two test regimes, at a very low sliding velocity.

The wear of diamond tools turning mild steel
Wear, 1980Abstract Previous experiments on the wear of diamond tools turning mild steel have shown that the very high rates of wear of the diamond arise from the degeneration of the diamond to graphite, the details of the wear mechanisms depending on the cutting conditions.

Tire Wear Caused by Mild Tread Slip
Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1997Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the tread wear of rolling tires and the wear of a sliding rubber pad. In the experiments, frictional parameters, i.e. sliding distances, sliding velocities, and contact pressures, are evaluated at points on the tire-tread surface.

The corrosive wear of nickel coating on mild steel
Journal of Materials Science, 1996The abrasive wear of nickel coatings on steel substrates, under corrosive conditions was studied. For specimens with and without heat treatment, the wear rate was observed to depend upon the nature of the corrosive solution. The composition of the wear debris was noted to be a function of the corrosive wear conditions. The wear rate of the heat treated

The mild wear mechanism of nodular iron
Wear, 1969Abstract Nodular cast iron is well known to be more susceptible to scuffing and seizing than is ordinary gray cast iron. This results largely from the spherical shape of the graphite nodules in its structure which causes relatively large metallic particles to be produced even under mild wear conditions.

The unlubricated fretting wear of mild steel in air
Wear, 1985Abstract Fretting experiments were carried out on mild steel in air to long sliding distances over a range of loads and stroke amplitudes. For peak-to-peak fretting amplitudes greater than 5 μm, three fretting stages were identified: an initial adhesive transfer stage, an intermediate stage where both metallic and oxide debris were produced and a ...

A New Approach to The Oxidational Theory of Mild Wear
Tribology Transactions, 1988The wear and friction of 316 stainless steel was investigated in relation to oxidation at the real area of contact. An approach describing the oxidation characteristics of mild wear in terms of linear oxidation kinetics is presented. Linear oxidation kinetics more closely approaches the physical conditions involved where oxide growth on asperities is ...

Reaction products in and around the wear track in the lubricated mild wear regime
Wear, 1984Abstract Liquid or solid reaction products that are insoluble in the lubricant and the metallic wear debris generated in the wear track are partially deposited around the wear track where they can be easily studied after experiments. A ball-on-plate friction apparatus operating in the mild wear regime is used for investigating these deposits and the ...
