Corrosion and wear protection of mild steel substrates by innovative PVD coatings

, 2020
Today, innovative coatings must ensure wear protection and corrosion resistance for engineering materials with high corrosion susceptibility, e.g. mild steels, as well as the current sustainability criteria in terms of environment protection and health ...

A model for the mild ratchetting wear of metals

Wear, 1996
Abstract A mechanism of metallic wear is proposed in which laminar wear debris is generated by a process of plastic ratchetting brought about by repeated pummelling of the softer wearing surface by the asperities on a harder mating surface. Wear rate is found to be approximately proportional to (load) 1.5 and an increasing function of a single non ...

The role of carbon in lubricated mild wear

Tribology International, 1986
Abstract This paper examines how carbon black (CB) can be used in the study of bore polishing mechanisms. Wear testing was carried out on a modified friction machine with a plane-on-plane combination. The results show a correlation between wear rate and degree of polishing.

Wear studies on boronized mild steel

Wear, 1984
Abstract Unlubricated dry sliding wear tests were carried out using a pin-on-disc machine on boronized mild steel pins containing FeB, Fe 2 B and both phases in the surface layers. The discs were made of hardened tool steel. Singlephase boride layers exhibited better wear resistance than two-phase boride layers.

Simulation of mild wear in helical gears

Wear, 2000
A computer model for simulation of the wear behaviour in helical gears has been developed. The method used can deal with tooth modifications and different profiles. The authors have studied the effects of wear previously but only in a two-dimensional perspective.
