RHIZOSPHERE AND RHIZOPLANE MICROFLORA OF COFFEE SEEDLINGS AS INFLUENCED BY COLLAR ROT AND BY SEED PRE-TREATMENT

open access: yesAnnals of Tropical Research, 1986
Rhizophere and rhizoplane microflora of coffee seedlings were studied by the dilution plate technique. The number of fungi, yeast and bacteria was higher in the rhizosphere than in the non-rhizosphere and rhizoplane.

Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.

Combined Process‐ and Phase‐Field‐Simulation to Predict the Microstructure of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...

Indirect effect of a transgenic wheat on aphids through enhanced powdery mildew resistance. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
In agricultural ecosystems, arthropod herbivores and fungal pathogens are likely to colonise the same plant and may therefore affect each other directly or indirectly.

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Discarded sequencing reads uncover natural variation in pest resistance in Thlaspi arvense

open access: yeseLife
Understanding the genomic basis of natural variation in plant pest resistance is an important goal in plant science, but it usually requires large and labor-intensive phenotyping experiments.

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

Tagatose Suppresses Grapevine Powdery Mildew and Downy Mildew under Field Conditions with No Severe Impacts on Grape Must Fermentation

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Grape and Wine Research, 2022
Background and Aims. Grapevine is susceptible to several diseases and requires a large use of fungicides. Sustainable alternatives must be safe for humans and the environment and also should not interfere with must fermentation. The aim of this study was

Hydrogen‐Assisted Fracture of Iron‐Based Fe–Ni–Al Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Principal relations and fracture mechanisms of single‐phase and precipitate‐strengthened Fe–Ni–Al alloys subjected to prior electrochemical hydrogen charging are identified. The mechanisms of hydrogen effect on strength and microhardness are discussed, including hydrogen‐induced increase in microhardness and the role of hydrogen in fracture behavior ...

Determination of downy mildew and powdery mildew resistance of some grape cultivars

open access: yes, 2017
Different grape cultivars of Vitis species have been cultivated in Turkey since ancient times. A large proportion of these cultivars cannot be cultivated in the humid regions of the country due to downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola) and powdery mildew (Uncinula necator or syn. Erysiphe necator) diseases.
