Milk Replacements for Dairy Calves

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1952
Summary Blood meal and blood flour appeared to be of comparable value for growth in dairy calves in these milk replacements. Adding fish solubles or dried corn fermentation solubles resulted in no increase in growth rate over the control ration.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

MILK REPLACER USE IN SUBSTITUTION OF WHOLE MILK ON THE PERFORMANCE OF HOLSTEIN CALVES DURING GROWING PHASE

open access: yesCiência Animal Brasileira, 2015
The objective of this study was to evaluate the biological efficiency of the milk replacer in the substitution of whole milk for calves at the first months of age and at rearing fase. This study was conducted in Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná

Milk Replacer Supplementation with Docosahexaenoic Acid from Microalgae Does Not Affect Growth and Immune Status in Goat Kids

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
Consumption of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), especially docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), has beneficial effects for consumers’ health. Consequently, there is an increased interest in enhancing meat fatty acid profiles (i.e., PUFA and DHA content ...

Nutritional Responses of Calves Fed Milk or a Milk Replacer

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1978
Abstract The nutritional responses of young male dairy calves fed whole milk or a commercial milk replacer were measured from 3 days postnatal to 14 wk age of weaning. Treatments were whole milk or milk replacer at 12% or 8% of body weight or at a constant intake of 8 liters daily. Chopped wheat straw was fed ad libitum.

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

Survey of biochemical and oxidative profile in donkey foals suckled with one natural and one semi-artificial technique. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Dairy donkey milking procedures require separating foals from their dams for a few hours a day. Artificial suckling in this species is a good technique for improving milk production and foal welfare.

Evaluation of on-farm labour saving strategies for optimisation of herd size that could be managed by one operator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
End of project reportAlternative milking frequencies Once a day (OAD) milking throughout lactation of a herd (over 2 years, incorporating 24% heifers) resulted in loss in milk solids (MS) production of 17% per cow.

Developing the EU Farm Accountancy Data Network to derive indicators around the sustainable use of nitrogen and phosphorus at farm level. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
peer-reviewedThis study uses a national farm survey which is part of the European Union (EU) Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN) to develop environmental sustainability indicators in the use of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) across a range of farm ...
