Plasma Proteins and a Probiotic as Ingredients in Milk Replacer
Milk replacers containing all milk protein, 25% of protein from porcine plasma protein, 25% of protein from bovine plasma protein, or all milk protein plus probiotic were compared in a 6-wk experiment using 120 Holstein bull calves approximately 7 d of age. All replacers contained an antibiotic except the one that contained probiotic.

Tolerance of the Calf for Excess Copper in Milk Replacer
Calves were fed milk replacer containing 10, 50, 200, 500, or 1000 ppm Cu, from 3 d to 45 d of age, to estimate the Cu concentration that would adversely affect calf performance. Weight gains and feed efficiency were similar for 10 and 50 ppm Cu but were reduced at 200 and 500 ppm Cu.

Electrically Coded Retinomorphic Spectrophotodetector
Self‐powered retinomorphic pyro‐photodetector is demonstrated that avoids machine‐learning post‐processing and covers 365–940 nm. Electrostatic balancing of built‐in potential produces an electrical wavelength code, delivering <3 nm wavelength decoding accuracy with ∼46 µs response.

Varying Levels of Starch in Calf Milk Replacers
Abstract Starch replaced varying amounts of lactose in milk replacers fed to Holstein calves by nipple pail as the only source of nutrients in three trials. Trial 1 was a growth trial involving 28 heifers. Amylopectin comprised 0, 9, 18, and 27% of solids in the replacer. Daily gains (3 to 45 days) for the respective treatments averaged 0.50, 0.45, 0.

Blending silk fibroin with polycaprolactone alters crystalline organization and surface morphology. Low fibroin levels promote ring‐banded spherulites, while higher contents generate porous, pit‐like textures, though overall crystallinity remains unchanged. Solvent evaporation further modulates surface patterns.
