Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Surface roughness prediction in milling based on tool displacements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper, an experimental device using non-contact displacement sensors for the investigation of milling tool behaviour is presented. It enables the recording of high frequency tool vibrations during milling operations.

Understanding the Effect of Resistance Temperature Detector Temperature Controllers on Microstructural Alignment in Magnetic Freeze Casting

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The effect of temperature controllers that are commonly used in freeze‐casting is investigated in this work. Temperature controllers are observed to generate a voltage in the slurry. Microstructural alignment and ultimate compressive strength data show this voltage to interfere with the ability to align the microstructure using magnetic fields ...

Dynamic analysis of runout correction in milling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Tool runout and its effects is an important area of research within modelling, simulation, and control of milling forces. Tool runout causes tool cutting edges to experience uneven forces during milling.

On the Impact Energy Absorption of an Advanced High‐Strength Bilayer Steel Composite Consisting of Carbide‐Free Bainitic Steel and High‐Mn Twinning‐Induced Plasticity Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Excellent combinations of strength and impact toughness are obtained in a bilayer composite of high‐strength carbide‐free bainitic (CFB) steel and high‐ductility twinning‐induced plasticity (TWIP) steel. The composite absorbs energy at small strains when the notch is placed on the TWIP side and at high strains when the notch is placed on the CFB side ...

Optimization of 5-axis milling processes using process models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Productivity and part quality are extremely important for all machining operations, but particularly for 5-axis milling where the machine tool cost is relatively higher, and most parts have complex geometries and high quality requirements with tight ...

Cutting mechanism of straight-tooth milling process of titanium alloy TC21 based on simulation and experiment.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Due to the characteristics of high strength, high chemical activity and low heat conduction, titanium alloy materials are generally difficult to machine.

Improved Cutting Force Modelling in Micro-Milling Aluminum Alloy LF 21 Considering Tool Wear

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Aluminum alloy LF 21 has a strong ability to reflect electromagnetic waves. LF 21 waveguide slit array structure is widely used in waveguide radar antenna. The stiffness of the slit array structure is relatively weak.

Cutting Forces in Peripheral Up-Milling of Particleboard [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2021
An analysis of forces acting in the peripheral up-milling of particleboard is presented. First, a novel method of high-frequency piezoelectric force signal treatment is proposed and used to separate the original force signal from the vibrations of the previous cutting iteration.
