Damage-free light-induced assembly of intestinal bacteria with a bubble-mimetic substrate

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2021
Hayashi et al. propose a method to realise rapid, damage-free, remote light-induced assembly of microbes over a submillimeter area with the “bubble-mimetic substrate”.

Static spherically symmetric solutions in mimetic gravity: rotation curves & wormholes

open access: yes, 2016
In this work, we analyse static spherically symmetric solutions in the framework of mimetic gravity, an extension of general relativity where the conformal degree of freedom of gravity is isolated in a covariant fashion.

An Engineered Living Material With Pro‐Angiogenic Activity Inducible by Near‐Infrared Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
NIR‐responsive engineered living materials (ELMs) for controlled angiogenesis: Near‐infrared (800 nm) light activates engineered probiotic bacteria within alginate‐based living materials to secrete a blood vessel‐regenerating protein. The released protein promotes pro‐angiogenic effects in endothelial networks and chick chorioallantoic membranes.

An in vivo comparative study on ageing skin: bio-mimetic versus traditional approach to skin moisturisation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Skin dryness is a common condition in elderly individuals. The two main mechanisms to cosmetically alleviate this state rely on the effects of humectants and occlusive substances, mostly in combination.

LL‐37 Driven Phase Transition and Stacking in Oligolamellar Gram‐Negative Bacterial Membrane Models

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work establishes oligolamellar bacterial membrane models to investigate how LL‐37 disrupts the complex dual‐bilayer architecture of Gram‐negative bacteria. Combining SAXS, cryo‐TEM, electrophoretic mobility measurements, and coarse‐grained simulations, it reveals cardiolipin‐driven phase transitions leading to bicelle‐like structures and membrane ...

Swelling‐Programmed Topographical Guidance for Dynamic Spheroid Self‐Assembly via a Mechanochemical Hydrogel Niche

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A swelling‐programmed micropatterned hydrogel guides adherent cells through a controlled transition from cell–matrix anchoring to cadherin‐mediated cell–cell compaction, enabling rapid assembly of high‐viability spheroids with defined size and morphology.

A mortar mimetic finite difference method on non-matching grids [PDF]

open access: yesNumerische Mathematik, 2005
This paper deals with the mimetic finite difference (MFD) method on nonmatching multiblock grids for second-order linear elliptic equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The authors establish a relation between the mortar MFD method and mortar mixed finite element methods.

Self‐Assembled Nanoclay Gel With Spheroid MSC‐Derived Exosome Mimetics to Integrate Demineralized Bone Matrix and Noggin‐Targeting miRNA for Synergistic Osteogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report a versatile nanoclay gel carrier platform that enhances the osteogenic efficacy of demineralized bone matrix (DBM) by integrating nanoclay‐based self‐assembly with cell‐derived exosome mimetics loaded with noggin‐targeting miR‐200c. This design amplifies BMP signaling, thereby promoting DBM‐mediated osteogenesis and offering a promising ...

A WNT mimetic with broad spectrum FZD-specificity decreases fibrosis and improves function in a pulmonary damage model

open access: yesRespiratory Research
Background Wnt/β-catenin signaling is critical for lung development and AT2 stem cell maintenance in adults, but excessive pathway activation has been associated with pulmonary fibrosis, both in animal models and human diseases such as idiopathic ...
