Multiple infections of zoonotic pathogens in wild Brandt's voles (Lasiopodomys brandtii)

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 9, Issue 5, Page 2201-2211, September 2023., 2023
Our research revealed the viral and bacterial diversity in wild Brandt's voles. The characterization and distinctive lineage of some rodent‐specific viruses (Cytomegalovirus, PestVs and Lentiviruses) and rodent‐borne bacteria (Leptospira interrogans and Vibrio cholerae) indicates that wild Brandt's voles may harbor a diversity of viruses and bacteria ...

Revolving ATPase motors as asymmetrical hexamers in translocating lengthy dsDNA via conformational changes and electrostatic interactions in phi29, T7, herpesvirus, mimivirus, E. coli, and Streptomyces

open access: yesExploration, Volume 3, Issue 2, April 2023., 2023
The revolving DNA motors of ATPase have been found in viruses (phi29, T7, herpesvirus, and mimivirus) and bacteria (E. coli and Streptomyces). The motors made of asymmetrical 6 subunits translocate lengthy double‐stranded (ds)DNA. The dsDNA is moved in a circular motion around the inner surface of the motor channel subunits.

Metabolic reconstruction of the near complete microbiome of the model sponge Ianthella basta

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 25, Issue 3, Page 646-660, March 2023., 2023
Abstract Many marine sponges host highly diverse microbiomes that contribute to various aspects of host health. Although the putative function of individual groups of sponge symbionts has been increasingly described, the extreme diversity has generally precluded in‐depth characterization of entire microbiomes, including identification of syntrophic ...

Covariance of Marine Nucleocytoplasmic Large DNA Viruses with Eukaryotic Plankton Communities in the Sub-Arctic Kongsfjorden Ecosystem: A Metagenomic Analysis of Marine Microbial Ecosystems

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2023
Nucleocytoplasmic large DNA viruses (NCLDVs) infect various marine eukaryotes. However, little is known about NCLDV diversity and their relationships with eukaryotic hosts in marine environments, the elucidation of which will advance the current ...

Identification and Genomic Characterization of Anelloviruses in Patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Purpose. Metagenomics has revealed that, in addition to the digestive tract, certain viruses are also commonly found in human blood. In order to explore and monitor potential novel viruses, three serum samples of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia were collected at the No. 2 People’s Hospital of Changshu City, China. Materials and Methods.

Phaeoviral infections are present in macrocystis, ecklonia and undaria (laminariales) and are influenced by wave exposure in ectocarpales [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Two sister orders of the brown macroalgae (class Phaeophyceae), the morphologically complex Laminariales (commonly referred to as kelp) and the morphologically simple Ectocarpales are natural hosts for the dsDNA phaeoviruses (family ) that persist as ...

Tracing the Origin of Genotype II African Swine Fever Virus in China by Genomic Epidemiology Analysis

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
The pandemic spread of African swine fever (ASF) has caused serious effects on the global pig industry. Virus genome sequencing and genomic epidemiology analysis play an important role in tracking the outbreaks of the disease and tracing the transmission of the virus.

mRNA maturation in giant viruses: variation on a theme [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
International audienceGiant viruses from the Mimiviridae family replicate entirely in their host cytoplasm where their genes are transcribed by a viral transcription apparatus. mRNA polyadenylation uniquely occurs at hairpin-forming palindromic sequences

Metagenomic Analysis of Virus Diversity and Relative Abundance in a Eutrophic Freshwater Harbour

open access: yesViruses, 2019
Aquatic viruses have been extensively studied over the past decade, yet fundamental aspects of freshwater virus communities remain poorly described. Our goal was to characterize virus communities captured in the >0.22 µm size-fraction seasonally ...

A distinct lineage of giant viruses brings a rhodopsin photosystem to unicellular marine predators. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Giant viruses are remarkable for their large genomes, often rivaling those of small bacteria, and for having genes thought exclusive to cellular life.
