Influence of edge crack on frequencies of thin plate in bending

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2005
This paper investigates the influence of crack location and crack length on changes in natural frequencies of bending thin plate. To perform this analysis, a computing program called CRACK-PLATE, using the finite element method based on the Ressner ...

An Analysis of Thickness-shear Vibrations of an Annular Plate with the Mindlin Plate Equations

open access: yes, 2015
The Mindlin plate equations with the consideration of thickness-shear deformation as an independent variable have been used for the analysis of vibrations of quartz crystal resonators of both rectangular and circular types.

A bending-gradient model for thick plates, I : theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
International audienceThis is the first part of a two-part paper dedicated to a new plate theory for out-of-plane loaded thick plates where the static unknowns are those of the Kirchhoff-Love theory (3 in-plane stresses and 3 bending moments), to which six

Static and dynamic analyses of stiffened folded laminate composite plate

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2013
This paper presents some numerical results of bending and vibration analyses of an unstiffened and stiffened folded laminate composite plate using finite element method. The effects of fiber orientations, boundary conditions, stiffener conditions of the

A new locking-free polygonal plate element for thin and thick plates based on Reissner-Mindlin plate theory and assumed shear strain fields

open access: yes, 2018
A new $n-$ noded polygonal plate element is proposed for the analysis of plate structures comprising of thin and thick members. The formulation is based on the discrete Kirchhoff Mindlin theory.

An Exact Series Solution for the Vibration of Mindlin Rectangular Plates with Elastically Restrained Edges

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2014
An analysis method is proposed for the vibration analysis of the Mindlin rectangular plates with general elastically restrained edges, in which the vibration displacements and the cross-sectional rotations of the mid-plane are expressed as the linear ...

An effective algorithm for reliability-based optimization of stiffened Mindlin plate

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2013
Nowadays, stiffened plates have been widely used in many branches of structural engineering such as aircraft, ships, bridges, buildings etc... In comparison with common bending plate structures, stiffened plates not only have larger bending stiffness ...

Anticlastic Curvature and Material Freedom

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), EarlyView.
Anticlastic curvature occurs in bent bars for positive Poisson's ratio; synclastic curvature occurs for negative Poisson's ratio provided the material is homogeneous and elastic. Some planar negative Poisson's ratio materials exhibit anticlastic saddle curvature rather than convex curvature in bending due to effects of 3D structure.
