The importance of getting mine closure costing right

open access: yes, 2022
Historically, mine closure costs have been underestimated. Until 1990, bonds to secure mine reclamation obligations in British Columbia (BC) were limited to $2,500 per hectare.

Exploring biophysical limitations and post-mining native ecosystem rehabilitation outcomes in Queensland

open access: yes, 2022
In Queensland, Australia, the objective of mine rehabilitation is for land disturbed by mining to attain a 'stable condition', which is defined as land that is, safe, stable, non-polluting and able to sustain a post-mining land use (PMLU).

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Potential socio-economic consequences of mine closure

open access: yesThe Journal for Transdisciplinary Research in Southern Africa, 2018
Background: Mine closures generally reveal negligence on the part of mining houses, not only in terms of the environment, but also the surrounding mining communities.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

An assessment of the quantum for financial provision of mine closures: a Monte Carlo approach.

open access: yes, 2012
Includes abstract.Includes bibliographical references.Poor mine closure policy threatens both society and the environment. Some of the more prominent threats that have manifested are acid mine drainage, slimes dams and toxic dust from dumps.

Final geological and mining exploration and reasons for the brown coal mine Laško closure

open access: yesGeologija, 2003
Final surface and underground geological and mine exploration data of the brown coalmine LaŠko are presented. The data refer to the period between 1978 and 1990 when most intensive and systematic exploration took place. In more than 225 years of activity,

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Decisions, decisions, decisions : Decision analysis process for mine closure

open access: yes, 2021
Decisions are part of everyday life. Some decisions require more structured processes to produce a rational and auditable methodology to support a choice between alternatives.
