The Potential for Developing Mine Cavity Water for Water Supplies: Institutional and Water Quality Issues

open access: yes, 2014
Many communities in the coalfield counties of southwest Virginia lack adequate and safe water supplies. The ability to develop affordable local water sources by using small water treatment plants is an attractive option to a small community and the local

Sulfate removal from acid mine water from the deepest active European mine by precipitation and various electrocoagulation configurations

open access: yes, 2018
Sulfate removal from mine or process water is a key issue in the mining industry. In this paper, precipitation with lime (calcium oxide) was integrated with electrocoagulation for sulfate removal from Pyhäsalmi/Finland mine water.

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Mine water : a resource for transportation of ores from underground mines

open access: yes, 1985
In underground mining, a hydraulic hoisting system can increase the hoisting capacity without necessitating the sinking of new shafts. There is generally a considerable inflow of groundwater which has to be pumped out.

Proteasome inhibitor, ixazomib prevents topoisomerase‐I degradation and reverses irinotecan resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ixazomib inhibits proteasome‐mediated degradation of topoisomerase I induced by irinotecan, thereby restoring drug sensitivity and promoting tumor cell death in colorectal cancer. Irinotecan, a topoisomerase I (topoI) inhibitor, is widely used for colorectal cancer, but resistance remains a major clinical challenge.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

Bioremediation of Heavy Metal-Contaminated Solution and Aged Refuse by Microbially Induced Calcium Carbonate Precipitation: Further Insights into Sporosarcina pasteurii

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Recently, the ability of microbial-induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP) to remediate heavy metals has been widely explored. Sporosarcina pasteurii was selected to remediate heavy metal-contaminated solution and aged refuse, exploring the ...

Properties of alkaline materials for injection into weathered mine waste piles : methods and initial pilot trials

open access: yes, 2011
Several alkaline materials were studied with regards to their ability to form stable suspensions withwater. Gravitational injection of alkaline materials were performed into weathered mine waste in two differentpilot scales (25 L and 1 000 L). When water
