Leveraging Data‐Driven and Fundamental Insights for Electrolyte Innovation in Lithium Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Using 640 curated electrolyte formulations, we apply data‐driven analysis to reveal how molecular features govern coulombic efficiency (CE) in lithium metal batteries. Fluorine content correlates positively with CE, while oxygen, carbon, and higher boiling points correlate negatively.

Enhanced rates of particulate organic matter remineralization by microzooplankton are diminished by added ballast minerals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
To examine the potentially competing influences of microzooplankton and calcite mineral ballast on organic matter remineralization, we incubated diatoms in darkness in rolling tanks with and without added calcite minerals (coccoliths) and ...

Hierarchical Flexible Ceramic Nanofiber Membrane for Simultaneous Membrane Distillation and Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical flexible ceramic nanofiber membrane integrates a La‐stabilized ZrO2 scaffold with superhydrophobic UiO‐66‐NH2/CdS heterojunctions. The gas–liquid–solid interfacial architecture sustains vapor‐selective desalination, visible‐light charge separation, and rapid H2 extraction, enabling simultaneous freshwater production and photocatalytic ...

Soil Texture Mediates the Short-Term Response of Particulate and Mineral-Associated Organic Carbon to Straw Return in the Loess Plateau

open access: yesAgronomy
In the fragile Loess Plateau ecosystem, straw return is a key measure to improve its low soil organic matter. However, the short-term carbon retention efficacy of straw return, which depends on the initial balance between carbon mineralization and ...

Decoding Synergistic Pathways in Bimetallic MOFs for Advanced Oxidation Processes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review presents a unified framework linking metal pairing and framework design with electronic structure, redox cycling, oxidant activation, reactive‐species generation, and catalytic performance across photocatalytic and oxidant‐based BMOF‐AOPs. The resulting design principles guide the development of hydrolytically stable and efficient BMOFs for

Physicochemical protection is more important than chemical functional composition in controlling soil organic carbon retention following long-term land-use change

open access: yesGeoderma
Understanding the mechanisms that control soil organic carbon (SOC) persistence is central to soil management and climate change mitigation. In the present study, we utilised a chronosequence of Vertisols which have undergone land use change from native ...

The significance of organic carbon and nutrient export from peatland-dominated landscapes subject to disturbance, a stoichiometric perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The terrestrial-aquatic interface is a crucial environment in which to consider the fate of exported terrestrial carbon in the aquatic system. Here the fate of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) may be controlled by nutrient availability.

Toward Pore‐Engineered 3D‐Printed Materials for Sorption Water Harvesting, Interfacial Evaporation, and Radiative Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Water harvesting, radiative cooling, and interfacial solar evaporation are fundamentally governed by coupled heat, mass, and light transport processes. These processes are mediated by pore architecture, including pore size, connectivity, and hierarchical organization.

Temperature effects on cropland soil particulate and mineral-associated organic carbon are governed by agricultural land-use types

open access: yesGeoderma
Agricultural land use and temperature change can profoundly affect soil organic carbon (SOC), but their combined effects on regulating cropland SOC fractions over broad geographic scales remain poorly understood.

Contribution of Dissolved Organic Carbon Leaching to the Annual Carbon Budget of a Dairy Farm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Soils are the largest terrestrial store of carbon (C) and changes in this store of C can impact on soil quality and atmospheric CO2 concentrations.
