Ce3+‐Activated Lithium Rare‐Earth Oxonitridolithosilicates: A New Class of LED Phosphors with Similarities to Garnets

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Garnet‐like luminescence upon Ce3+‐activation is found in the first six representatives Li9RESi4N4O8 (RE = Y, La, Gd, Dy, Yb, Lu) of the substance class of lithium rare‐earth oxonitridolithosilicates, which also show a novel structure type. High‐temperature solid‐state synthesis yielded crystalline samples for single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction‐based ...

Characterisation of the mechanical and thermal degradation behaviour of natural fibres for lightweight automotive applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
It is well established that light-weighting of automotive parts leads to reduced carbon emissions over vehicle lifetime. Mineral fibres and fillers have a relatively high density and may require high levels of energy in their production, resulting in a ...

Magnesium absorption as influenced by the rumen passage kinetics in lactating dairy cows fed modified levels of fibre and protein

open access: yesAnimal, 2019
The potassium sensitive magnesium absorption through the rumen wall may be influenced by additional dietary properties, such as diet type, forage type or forage to concentrate ratio.

Engineering Highly Cellularized Living Materials via Mechanical Agitation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A mechanical agitation strategy is developed to engineer highly cellularized living materials, achieving cell densities of up to 1 billion cells per milliliter. By precisely tuning properties such as stiffness and toughness in blood clots, the approach is validated in both in vitro and in vivo studies.

Construction Minerals in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area: A Land Management Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes
The patchwork of government influences that shape the protection and management of construction mineral resources--sand, gravel, and crushed stone--includes statutes, regulations, guidance documents, and court decisions at the federal, state, and local ...

Graded Hydroxyapatite Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Structures for Bone Tissue Engineering Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the role of triply periodic minimal structures in load bearing bone tissue engineering applications. Research uses a combination of mechanical testing, material characterization, and in vitro tests to study the impact of TPMS lattice structures (gyroid, lidinoid and split‐P).

Study of a hot asphalt mixture response based on energy concepts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The main objective of the research reported in this paper is to determine the response of a hot mix asphalt (HMA) in terms of both the tensile strength and energy parameters (based on the assessment of the force-displacement curve) as potential tools for

The Miner's Dilemma

open access: yes2015 IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy, 2015
An open distributed system can be secured by requiring participants to present proof of work and rewarding them for participation. The Bitcoin digital currency introduced this mechanism, which is adopted by almost all contemporary digital currencies and related services.
