Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Superextensions of cyclic semigroups

open access: yesKarpatsʹkì Matematičnì Publìkacìï, 2013
Given a cyclic semigroup $S$ we study right and left zeros, singleton left ideals, the minimal ideal, left cancelable andright cancelable elements of superextensions $lambda(S)$ andcharacterize cyclic semigroups whose superextensions arecommutative.

The Minimal Geometric Deformation Approach: A Brief Introduction

open access: yesAdvances in High Energy Physics, 2017
We review the basic elements of the Minimal Geometric Deformation approach in detail. This method has been successfully used to generate brane-world configurations from general relativistic perfect fluid solutions.

Safe Element Screening for Submodular Function Minimization

open access: yesCoRR, 2018
Submodular functions are discrete analogs of convex functions, which have applications in various fields, including machine learning and computer vision. However, in large-scale applications, solving Submodular Function Minimization (SFM) problems remains challenging.

Analysis of delamination growth with discontinuous finite elements

open access: yes, 2011
In this contribution a new finite element is presented for the simulation of delamination growth in thin layered composite materials. The element is based on the solid-like shell element, a volume element that can be used in very thin applications due to

Minimal Generators of Annihilators of Even Neat Elements in the Exterior Algebra

open access: yes, 2022
This paper deals with an exterior algebra of a vector space whose base field is of positive characteristic. In this work, a minimal set of generators forming the annihilator of even neat elements of such an exterior algebra is exhibited.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Generalized minimal nets in form finding of prestressed cable nets

open access: yesGrađevinar, 2013
Form finding problem of prestressed cable structures is formulated as a variational problem whose solutions are minimal and generalized minimal nets. Kinematic constrains are introduced that allow assignment of chosen lengths to elements.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
