Cis‐regulatory and long noncoding RNA alterations in breast cancer – current insights, biomarker utility, and the critical need for functional validation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The noncoding region of the genome plays a key role in regulating gene expression, and mutations within these regions are capable of altering it. Researchers have identified multiple functional noncoding mutations associated with increased cancer risk in the genome of breast cancer patients.

A Percutaneous Knotless Technique for Acute Achilles Tendon Ruptures

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, 2018
Achilles tendon ruptures are a common tendon injury, usually occurring in middle-aged men during recreational sporting activities. Both nonoperative and operative management are employed to treat these injuries. Several operative treatments are described

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

All-Arthroscopic Intratendinous Dermal Patch Integration for Large-Sized Rotator Cuff Tear

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques
Patch augmentation of rotator cuff repair can create a healed tendon-bone interface, rather than the formation of a fibrovascular scar tissue, seen even after maximizing biomechanical strength of repair with a double-row construct.

Answer Sets for Consistent Query Answering in Inconsistent Databases

open access: yes, 2002
A relational database is inconsistent if it does not satisfy a given set of integrity constraints. Nevertheless, it is likely that most of the data in it is consistent with the constraints. In this paper we apply logic programming based on answer sets to

Perspectives in educating molecular pathologists on liquid biopsy: Toward integrative, equitable, and decentralized precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Liquid biopsy enables minimally invasive, real‐time molecular profiling through analysis of circulating biomarkers in biological fluids. This Perspective highlights the importance of training pathologists through integrative educational programs, such as the European Masters in Molecular Pathology, to ensure effective and equitable implementation of ...

Robotic repair of large Morgagni hernia in an adolescent girl

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Surgery Case Reports, 2019
Introduction: Successful robotic repair of Morgagni hernias has been reported a few times, but in these cases the hernia content was rather minimal or unspecified.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Biocellulose for Incisional Hernia Repair—An Experimental Pilot Study

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2019
Ventral or incisional hernia are a common disease pattern in general surgery. Most commonly, a mesh repair is used for reconstruction, whereby the mesh itself might cause complications, like infections or adhesions.
