Emerging Insights of Tumor Heterogeneity and Drug Resistance Mechanisms in Lung Cancer Targeted Therapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The biggest hurdle to targeted cancer therapy is the inevitable emergence of drug resistance. Tumor cells employ different mechanisms to resist the targeting agent.

Laparoscopic partial adrenalectomy for bilateral pheochromocytomas in a boy with von Hippel-Lindau disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Objectives: In adults, increasing numbers of adrenalectomies for pheochromocytomas are performed laparoscopically. We report for the first time laparoscopic bilateral subtotal adrenalectomy for pheochromocytomas in an 8-year-old boy with von Hippel ...

Minimal Residual Disease in Hematologic Disorders

open access: yesArchives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, 1999
Abstract In almost no other area of medical oncology has the introduction of new drugs, combinations of chemotherapeutic agents, and novel biologic treatments caused such dramatic responses as it has in the treatment of malignant hematologic disorders.

Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.

Prognostic role of minimal residual disease before and after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
More than 80% of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) can be cured through intensive and risk-oriented chemotherapy protocols. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is considered bene\ufb01cial for approximately 10% of the

Targeted next-generation sequencing of circulating-tumor DNA for tracking minimal residual disease in localized colon cancer.

open access: yesAnnals of Oncology, 2019
BACKGROUND A high percentage of patients diagnosed with localized colon cancer (CC) will relapse after curative treatment. Although pathological staging currently guides our treatment decisions, there are no biomarkers determining minimal residual ...

KRAS and GNAS mutations in cell‐free DNA and in circulating epithelial cells in patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms—an observational pilot study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that KRAS and GNAS mutations are more prevalent in patients with resected intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) compared to those under clinical surveillance. GNAS mutations significantly differ between the two patient cohorts, indicating that their absence may serve as a potential biomarker to support conservative ...

Variants of intrinsic disorder in the human proteome [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
In this paper we propose a straightforward operational definition of variants of disordered proteins, taking the human proteome as a case study. The focus is on a distinction between mostly unstructured proteins and proteins which contain long unstructured regions accommodated in an overall folded structure.

On‐treatment dynamics of circulating extracellular vesicles in the first‐line setting of patients with advanced non‐small cell lung cancer: the LEXOVE prospective study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LEXOVE prospective study evaluated plasma cell‐free extracellular vesicle (cfEV) dynamics using Bradford assay and dynamic light scattering in metastatic non‐small cell lung cancer patients undergoing first‐line treatments, correlating a ∆cfEV < 20% with improved median progression‐free survival in responders versus non‐responders.
