NOViSE: a virtual natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery simulator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Purpose: Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES) is a novel technique in minimally invasive surgery whereby a flexible endoscope is inserted via a natural orifice to gain access to the abdominal cavity, leaving no external scars.

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Surgical and Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Procedures Among Persons With Body Dysmorphic Disorder [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Plastic Surgery, 2010
Persons with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) frequently seek surgical and minimally invasive (MI) treatments to improve their appearance, but few studies have evaluated patient characteristics and outcomes. Surgical/MI treatment histories of 200 persons with BDD were cross-sectionally/retrospectively evaluated.

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Sequelae and Surgical Management of Giant Cardiac Myxoma [PDF]

open access: yesTexas Heart Institute Journal
Cardiac myxomas are a rare phenomenon within the general population, and although there are reports of them, giant myxomas are not common in the medical literature. This report presents a case of a giant left atrial cardiac myxoma in a 57-year-old female

Is robot-assisted laparoscopic myomectomy limited in multiple myomas?: a feasibility for ten or more myomas [PDF]

open access: yesObstetrics & Gynecology Science, 2018
ObjectiveTo evaluate the feasibility of robot-assisted laparoscopic myomectomy in multiple myomas over 10.MethodsA retrospective study was conducted for 662 patients who underwent robot-assisted laparoscopic myomectomy and open myomectomy by a single ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Clinical Assessment of Open Flap Debridement Using Magnifying Loupes and Surgical Operating Microscope: A Split-Mouth Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

open access: yesFrontiers in Dentistry
Objectives: To overcome the drawbacks of the conventional flap surgery, newer surgical techniques like minimally invasive surgery were evolved to optimize the primary closure of the flap.

Minimal-invasive, video-assisted vein harvesting for cardiac and vascular surgical procedures [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 1997
Harvesting of the saphenous vein is a routine procedure in coronary and peripheral vascular surgery. It is usually performed using a continuous long skin incision. Minor complications are reported in up to 24% (hematoma, wound dehiscence, infection, pain) and major problems necessitating surgical interventions (bleeding, abscess) in less than 1%. These

Longitudinal circulating tumor DNA profiling in patients with advanced endometrial cancer using an off‐the‐shelf targeted NGS panel

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumour heterogeneity complicates precision management of advanced endometrial cancer. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) offers a minimally invasive strategy to capture tumor evolution and therapeutic resistance. Here, we compare tumor‐agnostic NGS with tumor‐informed ddPCR, outlining their relative sensitivity, concordance, and clinical implications ...
