Postpartum Changes in the Minimum Alveolar Concentration of Isoflurane
Survey of Anesthesiology, 1995Background Minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) is decreased in pregnancy, but it is not known how quickly after delivery MAC returns to normal. We measured the MAC of isoflurane in a group of women undergoing elective tubal ligation after delivery.

Determination of the Minimum Alveolar Concentration of Isoflurane in Llamas
Veterinary Surgery, 1999Objective—To determine the minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) of isoflurane (ISO) in llamas.Study Design—Prospective study.Animals—Eight adult neutered male llamas (9 ± 1 years [x̄± SD], 177 ± 29 kg). Methods—Anesthesia was induced and maintained in otherwise unmedicated llamas with a mixture of ISO in oxygen administered through a standard small ...

Reduction of the Minimum Alveolar Concentration of Isoflurane by Dexmedetomidine
Anesthesiology, 1997Background alpha 2-Adrenergic agonists have been shown to reduce anesthetic requirements of other anesthetics, and they may even act as complete anesthetics by themselves at high doses in animal models. The present study was designed to define the interaction of intravenous infusion of dexmedetomidine, an alpha 2-adrenergic ...

The Minimum Alveolar Concentration of Nitrous Oxide in Man
Anesthesia & Analgesia, 1982The potency and anesthetic state produced by nitrous oxide alone were investigated in order to clarify its contribution to the effect of other anesthetic agents. Seven volunteers anesthetized with 1.55 atm absolute N2O in a pressure chamber displayed muscle rigidity with jerking movements, labored and rapid breathing, sweating, and dilated pupils. At 1.

The Minimum Alveolar Concentration (MAC) of Sevoflurane in Humans
Anesthesiology, 1987Forty surgical patients were divided into two groups and anesthetized with either sevoflurane and oxygen or sevoflurane, oxygen, and nitrous oxide. The minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) for sevoflurane required to prevent movement in response to surgical incision in healthy patients was 1.71 +/- 0.07% (SE).

Association of Ethnicity with the Minimum Alveolar Concentration of Sevoflurane
Anesthesiology, 2007Abstract Background: Selective breeding produces animal strains with varying anesthetic sensitivity. It thus seems unlikely that various human ethnicities have identical anesthetic requirements. Therefore, the authors tested the hypothesis that the minimum alveolar concentration of sevoflurane differs significantly as
