Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Minimum Inhibitory Concentration of Tigecycline on Acinetobacter in Burn Patients
Background: Burn infection is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in spite of significant improvements in burn care and treatment. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter spp., Staphylococcus aureus etc. are the commonest isolates in which rapid development of resistance to multiple drugs limits the therapeutic options for infections by ...

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Vancomycin minimum inhibitory concentrations and lethality in Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia [PDF]
After the dissemination of penicillin and oxacillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-intermediate and vancomycin resistant isolates have been reported. Even between isolates with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) within the susceptible range, some authors have demonstrated that higher MICs correlate with higher lethality. To test ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

In Vitro Activity of Vancomycin and Teicoplanin Against Coagulase Negative Staphylococci
Objectives: With the increase in nosocomial infections caused by coagulase negative staphylococci (CNS), laboratory diagnosis of CNS with reduced susceptibility to glycopeptides (vancomycin and teicoplanin) has become important.
