Could the chemical industry mitigate rapid global cooling from a catastrophic volcanic eruption?

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Estimates based on historical data place the probability of a catastrophic volcanic eruption in the next 100 years at around one in six. Large volcanic eruptions can lead to significant global cooling for 2–4 years, with potentially devastating impacts on global agriculture.

A Thorough Characterization of the Tellurocyanate Anion

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
[K@crypt‐222][TeCN] was synthesized from KCN, Te, and crypt‐222 in acetone. We discuss fundamental properties of [TeCN]−: Single crystal X‐ray diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance (13C, 15N, 125Te), vibrational spectroscopy, and negative ion photoelectron spectroscopy.

Autonomous Intuition for Advanced Manufacturing Systems: Benefits and Tradeoffs of Presampling for Autonomous Parameterization

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Sampling a design space to target a class of possible desirable outcomes, creating an artificial intuition, can accelerate future optimizations to those targets. This is tested experimentally with parameterization to achieve various geometries of freestanding structures using direct ink write (DIW) 3D printing.
