Anesthetic management of maternal Mirror syndrome
International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia, 2014Mirror syndrome (Ballantyne syndrome, triple edema, maternal hydrops, pseudotoxemia) is a rarely diagnosed condition associated with pregnancy that can be life-threatening for both the mother and fetus. There is limited literature on its pathogenesis and anesthetic management, making prevention and treatment complex.

In the mirror syndrome, maternal edema mirrors fetal edema. The pathogenesis is unknown. The most common etiologic associations are rhesus isoimmunization, twin-twin transfusion syndrome, and viral infections. Less than 10% of reported cases are associated with congenital anomalies.

This is a case report illustrating a patient who developed pre-eclampsia with non-immunological hydrops fetalis associated with fetal tachycardia. It illustrates how successful treatment of a fetal disorder can lead to resolution of the maternal disorder.

To investigate clinical features of mirror syndrome. We retrospectively reviewed 71 cases of fetal hydrops with or without mirror syndrome, and compared with respect to maternal age, the body mass index, the primipara rate, the gestational age at delivery, the timing of fetal hydrops onset, the severity of fetal edema, placental swelling, the laboratory

Spontaneous Resolution of Mirror Syndrome
Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2005Mirror syndrome, a rare condition characterized by maternal anasarca in a pregnancy complicated by fetal hydrops, may have a devastating fetal outcome and significant maternal morbidity. We report a case of mirror syndrome caused by parvovirus B19 infection, which resolved spontaneously with good fetal and maternal outcome. The pathogenesis of mirror ...

Gigantomastia complicating mirror syndrome in pregnancy
Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2003Gigantomastia is a rare and dangerous condition in pregnancy. Although improvement after delivery is likely, postpartum aggravation is possible. To date, various pharmacological approaches have been tried, with only marginal effectiveness. Surgical intervention is often necessary.A young woman presented at 32 weeks' gestation with mirror syndrome and ...

Mirror syndrome associated with fetal leukemia
Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research, 2014AbstractMirror syndrome describes the association of fetal and placental hydrops with maternal edema. This case is the first reported case of mirror syndrome relative to fetal leukemia. We suggest that fetal leukemia can have a major impact on mirror syndrome, and provide a brief review of the literature related to this syndrome.

Mirror syndrome is a rare entity characterized by maternal disease mimicking fetal hydrops. In mirror syndrome, there is maternal hypertension, edema, and often proteinuria in association with fetal hydrops. The causal link between mirror syndrome and hydrops fetalis remains elusive. This is a case report of a pregnant woman who developed mirror ...
