IRT‐based response style models and related methodology: Review and commentary

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract We provide a review and commentary on recent methodological research related to item response theory (IRT) modelling of response styles in psychological measurement. Our review describes the different categories of IRT models that have been proposed, their associated assumptions and extensions, and the varying purposes they can serve.

Short- and Long-Term Efficacy of Intensive Rehabilitation Treatment on Balance and Gait in Parkinsonian Patients: A Preliminary Study with a 1-Year Followup

open access: yesParkinson's Disease, 2013
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease in which gait and balance disturbances are relevant symptoms that respond poorly to pharmacological treatment.

Differential item functioning detection across multiple groups

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Differential item functioning (DIF) can be investigated by estimating item response theory (IRT) parameters separately for different respondent groups, thus allowing for the detection of discrepancies in parameter estimates across groups. However, before comparing the estimates, it is necessary to convert them to a common metric due to the ...

Asymptotic standard errors for reliability coefficients in item response theory

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract In a recent review, Liu et al. (Psychological Methods, 2025b) classified reliability coefficients into two types: classical test theory (CTT) reliability and proportional reduction in mean squared error (PRMSE). This article focuses on quantifying the sampling variability of these coefficients under item response theory (IRT) models.

Approximating multidimensionality with asymmetric unidimensional IRT models

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Unidimensional item response theory (IRT) models are widely used even in settings where assessment data exhibit subtle forms of multidimensionality. Recent empirical evidence suggests that when item difficulty is associated with dimensionality, asymmetric item characteristic curves (ICCs) emerge in the unidimensional approximation.

Osamosvajanje mladih odraslih [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Obdobje mladih odraslih je čas, ko se mladi iz mladostnikov razvijejo v odrasle. V preteklosti je to osamosvajanje mladih potekalo po tradicionalnih prehodih, ki pa danes ne držijo več.

Investigating Subscores of VERA 3 German Test Based on Item Response Theory/Multidimensional Item Response Theory Models

open access: yesFrontiers in Education, 2022
In this study, the psychometric properties of the listening and reading subtests of the German VERA 3 test were examined using Item Response Theory (IRT) and Multidimensional Item Response Theory (MIRT) models.

On the asymmetry, complexity and predicted data patterns of nontraditional item response theory models

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Traditional item response theory (IRT) models involve symmetric response probability functions, but a developing area of research has focused on asymmetric alternatives. To date, these studies have focused primarily on introducing new asymmetric models, detailing their mathematical formulations, explaining how to interpret their item ...

Development of the inventory of clinician attitudes about suicide prevention

open access: yesPsychology and Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Mental health providers (MHPs) hold varying attitudes about suicide prevention, and these beliefs can impact personal and client well‐being. To date, suicide prevention attitude measures are limited by appropriate population use, poor psychometrics and a lack of theoretical foundation.
