Bladed disks of engine rotors usually operate at harsh conditions of high rotating speeds, which may lead to nonnegligible rotordynamic effects, including Coriolis force, spin softening, and stress stiffening effects.

Real‐time electron spectrometer utilizing a permanent magnet and diode detector array
Abstract Background Magnetic spectrometers have been previously described for measuring energy spectra of therapeutic electron beams. However, challenges for clinical utilization have been their size, weight, and limited real‐time capabilities. Development of a compact, lightweight, and inexpensive device with real‐time readout will make an electron ...

On Antiresonance in the Forced Response of Mistuned Bladed Disks
Mistuning in bladed disks usually increases the forced response of the maximum responding blade leading to shortened component life in turbine engines.

A vane used in a low pressure end of steam turbine is usually fixed to an inner shroud and an outer ring by welding both ends. In such a vane structure, the damping in loading operation is comprised of the material damping and the aerodynamic damping ...

Auditory change detection in musically trained adolescents and young adults: An EEG–fMRI study
Electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) were used to examine auditory deviance detection in musically trained and untrained 16–20‐year‐olds. Participants passively listened to a sequence of major chord standards and minor chord deviants during separate EEG and fMRI sessions.

Effect of mistuning on the detection of a tone masked by a harmonic tone complex. [PDF]
The human auditory system is sensitive in detecting "mistuned" components in a harmonic complex, which do not match the frequency pattern defined by the fundamental frequency of the complex.

Quantum Powers and Primitive Ontology
ABSTRACT This article surveys recent work on primitive ontology (PO) approaches to quantum mechanics, focusing on proposals that seek to integrate this approach with the metaphysics of causal powers. PO approaches aim to provide a clear metaphysical picture in which the world consists of local entities such as particles, matter density fields or ...
