Mitochondrial Adaptations in Skeletal Muscle Following Incretin‐Based Therapies: In Vitro

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Incretin‐based therapies such as glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1Ras), dual GLP‐1/GIP agonists and amylin analogues have demonstrated significant weight loss benefits. However, their impact on skeletal muscle mitochondrial function, particularly under metabolic stress, remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate

IL‐15 Links Muscle–Kidney Crosstalk to Preserving Podocyte Mitochondrial Fusion and Attenuating Diabetic Nephropathy

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives High glucose induces mitochondrial dysfunction in podocytes, contributing to the development of diabetic nephropathy (DN). There is increasing evidence that muscles play a protective role by secreting myokines into the kidneys. Here, we investigated how skeletal muscle influences podocyte health via muscle–kidney crosstalk.

An HBV‐Derived Peptide Poly6 as a Novel Candidate for Functional Cure Via IFN‐I–Mediated Epigenetic Regulation of cccDNA

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 98, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) represents the central obstacle to achieving a functional cure for chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Poly6, a peptide encoded within the HBV genome, was investigated for antiviral efficacy in hepatocyte‐derived cell lines, hydrodynamic injection models, and HBV transgenic mice.

Unidirectional Conduction at the Left Atrial Roof Observed in the Chronic Phase After Single‐Ring Isolation for Long‐Standing Persistent Atrial Fibrillation

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, Volume 42, Issue 2, April 2026.
Single‐ring isolation (SRI) was achieved, but residual unidirectional conduction remained along the left atrial roof. After SRI, repetitive activity from the left superior pulmonary vein (LSPV) triggered atrial fibrillation. Additional ablation at the unidirectional conduction gap site successfully achieved bidirectional conduction block.
