Mesentero-axial gastric volvulus treated with laparoscopic gastropexy: a case report
Background Mesentero-axial gastric volvulus (MAGV) is an uncommon subtype of gastric volvulus (GV). However, reports of such cases in adult patients are very rare. We present an unusual case of idiopathic MAGV in an old woman.

Mitofusins and OPA1 Mediate Sequential Steps in Mitochondrial Membrane Fusion [PDF]
Mitochondrial fusion requires the coordinated fusion of the outer and inner membranes. Three large GTPases—OPA1 and the mitofusins Mfn1 and Mfn2—are essential for the fusion of mammalian mitochondria.

Metformin mediates mitochondrial quality control in Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) fibroblasts carrying mtDNA mutations. At therapeutic levels, metformin activates AMPK signaling to restore mitochondrial dynamics by promoting fusion and restraining fission, while preserving mitochondrial mass, enhancing autophagy/mitophagy and biogenesis ...

Generation of trans-mitochondrial mito-mice by the introduction of a pathogenic G13997A mtDNA from highly metastatic lung carcinoma cells [PDF]
To investigate the effects of respiration defects on the disease phenotypes, we generated trans-mitochondrial mice (mito-mice) by introducing a mutated G13997A mtDNA, which specifically induces respiratory complex I defects and metastatic potentials in ...

dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Delayed traumatic intracerebral hematoma presenting as cortical deafness: case report
Cortical deafness is a rare condition and is usually caused by bilateral cerebral lesions. Several cases of sudden cortical deafness caused by ischemic stroke or hypertensive intracerebral hematoma have been reported, however, no cases of traumatic ...

This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.
