Splice variants of mitofusin 2 shape the endoplasmic reticulum and tether it to mitochondria

Science, 2023
In eukaryotic cells, different organelles interact at membrane contact sites stabilized by tethers. Mitochondrial mitofusin 2 (MFN2) acts as a membrane tether that interacts with an unknown partner on the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).

Mitochondria and Childhood Liver Diseases

Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology & Nutrition, 1999
The newly recognized mitochondrial hepatopathies should be considered in the differential diagnosis of acute and chronic liver disease in childhood. It may appear as neonatal liver failure, delayed onset liver failure in early childhood or as a multisystemic process.

Ornithine transcarbamylase in liver mitochondria

Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, 1982
Ornithine transcarbamylase (ornithine carbamoyltransferase, EC 2.1.3.3), the second enzyme of urea synthesis, is localized in the matrix of liver mitochondria of ureotelic animals. The enzyme is encoded by a nuclear gene, synthesized outside the mitochondria, and must then be transported into the organelle. The rat liver enzyme is initially synthesized

Mitochondria in Liver Diseases

2018
Mitochondria are not only the main energy source in the hepatocytes but also play a major role in the cell redox homeostasis and maintain normal liver function including signalling pathways and the metabolism of exogenous substances. These roles assign mitochondria a gateway function in protecting hepatocyte from injury since unbalanced mitochondrial ...

Mitochondria-Mediated Pathogenesis and Therapeutics for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.

Molecular Nutrition & Food Research, 2019
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become a worldwide epidemic over the last decade. Remarkable progress has been made in understanding the pathogenesis of NAFLD and, subsequently, in developing medications to treat this disease.

Chelating agents and rat liver mitochondria

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1989
The chelating agents (EGTA and EDTA) and inorganic phosphate (Pi) are the most variable components of experiments involving isolated liver mitochondria. In the absence of EGTA or EDTA, swelling induced by Pi leads to rapid loss of endogenous adenine nucleotides to adenosine.

Asparagine catabolism in rat liver mitochondria

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1989
A large portion of mitochondrial asparagine (Asn) is degraded by asparagine amino-transferase to produce alpha-ketosuccinamate (alpha KSA), which is then hydrolized by omega-amidase to produce oxaloacetate (OAA) and ammonia. This is in contrast to the catabolism in the cytosol, where the main catabolic route for Asn occurs initially via asparaginase ...

Aflatoxin inhibition of rat liver mitochondria

Chemico-Biological Interactions, 1973
Abstract When aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is added to an actively respiring rat liver mitochondrial preparation, 25–44% inhibition of electron transport is produced with concentrations ranging from 2.5–4.8 middot; 10−4M, respectively. The degree of inhibition levels off at 4.8 middot; 10−4M, which was shown to be in agreement with the critical micelle ...

Aldehyde oxidation in rat liver mitochondria

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1972
Abstract Rat liver mitochondria contain systems capable of oxidizing a variety of monoand bifunctional aldehydes. The oxidation of glutaraldehyde is linked to the mitochondrial lectron transport chain and coupled to oxidative phosphorylation. ADP and uncoupling agents stimulated the oxidation.
