Human REV3 DNA Polymerase Zeta Localizes to Mitochondria and Protects the Mitochondrial Genome.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
To date, mitochondrial DNA polymerase γ (POLG) is the only polymerase known to be present in mammalian mitochondria. A dogma in the mitochondria field is that there is no other polymerase present in the mitochondria of mammalian cells.

Genomic and non-genomic action of vitamin D on ion channels – Targeting mitochondria

open access: yesMitochondrion
Recent studies revealed that mitochondria are not only a place of vitamin D3 metabolism but also direct or indirect targets of its activities. This review summarizes current knowledge on the regulation of ion channels from plasma and mitochondrial membranes by the active form of vitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3).

Promoting Treg Polarization‐Mediated Anti‐Scar and Appendage Regeneration in Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a PLGA@LA‐BMP4‐PG bilayer scaffold to address scar formation and appendage loss in skin repair. The piezoelectric PLA layer enhances cell migration via electric fields, while GelMA delivers LA promoting Tregs polarization and BMP4 inhibiting FBs differentiation.

Homoisoflavanone Delays Colorectal Cancer Progression via DNA Damage‐Induced Mitochondrial Apoptosis and Parthanatos‐Like Cell Death

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Homoisoflavanone (HIF), a bioactive compound isolated from Polygonatum kingianum, selectively suppresses colorectal cancer progression by inducing DNA damage‐mediated mitochondrial apoptosis and parthanatos‐like cell death. HIF triggers mitochondrial dysfunction, including depolarized membrane potential, elevated ROS, and ATP depletion, while impairing

Extracellular mitochondria as promising diagnostic agents

open access: yesИсследования и практика в медицине
Nowadays, there is a new concept that says that mitochondria naturally circulate in the blood and this is characteristic of both human and animal bodies.

Genomic Analysis of Mitochondria of Metschnikowia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Genomic Analysis of Mitochondria of Metschnikowia Background Our current understanding of mitochondrial genomes is biased toward metazoans, which represent the majority of sequenced mitochondrial DNAs (mtDNAs). The high diversity in size, shape, and gene synteny among yeast mitochondrial genomes make them an appealing alternative to those of metazoans ...

Mitochondrial damage checkpoint in apoptosis and genome stability [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Yeast Research, 2004
Mitochondria perform multiple cellular functions including energy production, cell proliferation and apoptosis. Studies described in this paper suggest a role for mitochondria in maintaining genomic stability. Genomic stability appears to be dependent on mitochondrial functions involved in maintenance of proper intracellular redox status, ATP-dependent

The Mitochondrial Guardian α‐Amyrin Mitigates Alzheimer's Disease Pathology via Modulation of the DLK‐SARM1‐ULK1 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dietary habits play a key role in chronic diseases, and higher annual consumption of fruit and vegetable may lower risk of dementia. Artificial intelligence predicts the lipid‐like compound α‐Amyrin (αA) from plants with edible peels as a drug candidate against Alzheimer's disease.

Anti‐Apoptotic and Neurite‐Protective Nanomedicine Augments Embryonic Stem Cells‐Derived Retinal Ganglion Cell Transplantation in Glaucoma Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lithium‐epigallocatechin gallate nanoparticles (Li‐EGCG NPs) are co‐transplanted with embryonic stem cell‐derived retinal ganglion cells (ESC‐RGCs) to enhance cell survival and therapeutic efficacy in an acute pathological glaucomatous injury model. This synergistic approach protects RGC cells, preserves retinal structure and improves visual function ...

APOE‐stratified Proteomic and Metabolomic Analysis Reveals Mitochondrial Dysfunction Inflammation and Lipid Dysregulation in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A large‐scale multiomic dataset (proteomic and metabolomic) comprising 3,060 plasma samples were analyzed to identify proteins, metabolites, pathways, and protein‐associated drugs linked to Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) independently of apolipoprotein E (APOE). AD was associated with a distinct molecular signature that captures.
