Mitral valve reconstruction for mitral insufficiency

Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases, 1997
Mitral valve reconstruction is now the procedure of choice for many mitral regurgitant lesions. Early enthusiasm and technical advances in plastic reconstruction of the mitral valve were overshadowed by the development of prosthetic and bioprosthetic valves. With long-term follow-up studies came the realization that the complication rates of prosthetic

Anatomy of mitral insufficiency

Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases, 1962
Summary The causes of mitral insufficiency are primarily considered from an anatomic point of view. Mitral insufficiency may result from anatomic alteration of the papillary muscles, the chordae tendineae, the valve leaflets and/or the commissures.

Isolated congenital mitral insufficiency

The Journal of Pediatrics, 1964
Reports of isolated congenital mitral insufficiency have been sparse. We have had theunusual opportunity of studying 16 cases. This congenital lesion as noted in these sixteen patients has presented with a clinical finding hitherto unreported which we think is presumptively diagnostic.

Mitral valve repair for ischemic mitral insufficiency

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1991
Over a 5-year period, 1,292 patients had operation on their native mitral valves. Ischemia was the cause of mitral insufficiency in 84 patients (6.5%). Sixty-five patients (77.4%) had mitral valve repair. Mean age was 66 +/- 10 years; 35 patients (53.8%) were women.

Mitral valve repair for significant mitral insufficiency

American Heart Journal, 1978
There has been skepticism since the early days of open heart surgery that good long-term or even short-term results were possible with repair of pure mitral insufficiency. The authors report 145 patients in whom a markedly insufficient mitral valve was repaired 6 months to 17 years previously and another 55 patients in whom repair of the insufficient ...

[Mitral insufficiency].

Italian heart journal. Supplement : official journal of the Italian Federation of Cardiology, 2003
Over the past 15 years, outcome of patients with severe mitral insufficiency is significantly improved. This may be due to concomitant advances in many fields of medicine such as a more effective diagnosis and left ventricular function monitoring by means of echocardiography, development of useful guidelines and advances in valve reconstruction ...

Rerepair for Mitral Insufficiency

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery
Mitral valve repair provides superior outcomes to replacement for primary mitral regurgitation. Whether this is true after previous repair is unknown. This study presents the results of a strategy of rerepair for failed mitral valve repair. The study examined patients who were brought to the operating room for an intended mitral valve rerepair.Study ...

[Functional mitral insufficiency].

Italian heart journal. Supplement : official journal of the Italian Federation of Cardiology, 2000
The term "functional mitral regurgitation" is generally used to indicate the presence of mitral regurgitation in patients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction in the absence of structural abnormalities of mitral leaflets and chordal or papillary muscle rupture.
